THE PRAYER OF BARUCH, THE SON OF NERIAH
1. And I went departed and sat in a cave in the valley of Cedron. I sanctified my soul, and ate no bread, and still was not hungry. I drank no water, and still was not thirsty. For the full seven days, I remained there as He had commanded.
2. Later, I came to Mt. Zion where the Lord had spoken to me.
3. And at sunset, after much meditation, I began to speak to the Mighty One Who was present with me:
4. You have made the earth to listen, have fixed the atmosphere to cover the earth, have fixed the heavens by the Spirit, have known events of history from the beginning, and all things submit to You.
5. The atmosphere is commanded by Your nod, and the future is as known to You as is the present.
Baruch is about to be shown and told many prophetic announcements from God. Baruch can truly be called a ‘prophet of God.” God has had, and will have prophets to speak His words, predict truths, confront sin.
The reason that the Bible is so full of prophecy, is that our God is an all-knowing God. Prophecy is the revelation of history by God before it occurs. He does want us to know many things about His purposes toward us, toward other peoples, and toward the universe. True prophecy is the prophecy that springs from the mind of God.
True prophecy affirms that God does foreknow events before they happen:
"Behold, the former things have come to pass - new things I declare unto you - before they spring forth, I tell you of them."
True prophecy shows us that God is omnipotent. He can declare things will someday occur, and the devil and all his forces cannot stop them from occurring:
"I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass."
"Prophecy" comes from two Greek words:
"Pro" means "forth or before".
"Phemi" means "to speak."
Therefore "prophecy" is - to speak forth facts from God's mind. The prophets will often speak a "Thus saith the Lord." One third of the Bible is prophecy. This shows a great emphasis of God on revealing future facts to us. He knows many things we would like to know, and God seems to be intent on revealing much to us:
"He revealeth His secrets unto His servants, the prophets."
We can sometimes be surprised to see in the Bible how much God has wanted to reveal. In Jude 14, we are shown that even Enoch, the seventh generation from Adam, knew that someday Christ would come with many , many saints. Abraham was called a prophet, and we are told in Hebrews that he looked for the New Jerusalem. Moses spoke with God "face to face" (Num. 12:8), and knew that a Deliverer would come "like unto men" (Deut. 18:15). Prophets are chosen of God and since the source of true prophetic words are all from God, true prophets speak words that are confirmed by the Word of God and by all other true prophets of God.
We a told to "covet to prophesy" (I Cor. 14:39). Moses prayed:
"Would God that all the Lord's people were prophets, and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them."
It appears that God is trying to answer that prayer. We see how the Holy Spirit is offered to "all flesh." And all who come to the Lord are commanded to "covet to prophesy."
In the Old Testament, the prophets would gather the people together at the new moon (beginning of the month), and on the Sabbaths - for the purpose of edification and instruction. These men were primarily preachers of righteousness.
Many, if not most of them, were strange in some way. In fact, they were often asked of God to do "strange" things. Ezekiel was told to preach to mountains. Hosea was told to buy back his unfaithful wife at auction. Abraham was told to offer his son in sacrifice. Elijah was told to pour water on the sacrifice. Moses was told to hit a rock to get water. Jeremiah was told to buy an expensive belt, wear it for a time, then go to the river Euphrates and bury it. One thing that stands out about prophets is that they were willing to do anything God asked of them, no matter how stupid it seemed.
It is amazing to see how accurate the prophecy of God has been. All Bible prophecy has either been fulfilled, or soon will be.
"One jot of one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."
There were 333 details of the Messiah's first coming predicted in the Old Testament. Jesus fulfilled all 333 prophecies. The chances of that happening by chance are 1 in 840, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000.
There are 1423 prophetic verses in the 7957 verses of the New Testament. Christ is the center of all the prophecy of God.
"To Him give all the prophets witness."
"The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."
Baruch begins to question God, and that questioning will allow God to answer with prophetic announcements that will be confirmed in the Biblical revelations, and show God truly does want us to know much about His plans.
6. With much wisdom You have directed the angels in Your presence; and with determination You rule the holy living ones who are without number, who were created in the beginning, i.e. the ones of flame and fire, who stand before Your throne.
7. It is only You Who can do whatever You choose.
8. You cause raindrops without number to fall to the earth, and You alone know the end-time events before they arrive. Therefore, listen to my prayer.
9. For You alone are able to sustain those who live, those who have died, those who are yet to be born, those who sin, those who are righteous.
10. For You alone, immortal and beyond understanding, know the full number of mankind.
11. And many of the total number sin, and many others are righteous.
All learning moves from the unknown to the known. As children first learn basic addition. Then they are taught subtraction. After those are taught, then multiplication and division are taught. In the same way God has built revelation upon revelation to prepare us for the message that He is now revealing to us. The Messianic prophecy began in seed form with the prophecy to Adam and Eve about the seed of woman that would someday come and bruise the head of the serpent. From that prophecy, God has progressively revealed more and more about the Messiah.
"For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little, that they might go..."
For anyone to try to prophesy without Bible study to find out the precepts, and lines that God has already revealed is foolish. Now, in these last days, we have a whole stack of lines and precepts given to prophets already. We need to study them, and then let God reveal more revelation to us. The new revelation will not contradict the old revelation, but will rather confirm and enlighten it.
Daniel started in the study of the Word of God. When he was studying the message of Jeremiah (a contemporary), he found a revelation of prophecy. He read in Jeremiah (25:11, 29:1,10) about the 70 years that the people were to suffer the captivity.
"I, Daniel, understand by the books the number of years whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, the prophet, that he would accomplish 70 years in the desolation of Jerusalem."
Then Daniel turned to God to pray about Jeremiah's prophecy. As he prayed and continued to search the Word of God, he came to Leviticus 26:14-39:
"I set my face unto the Lord God... the curse is poured upon us and the oath that is written in the law of Moses."
To Moses had been given the prophecy that when a captivity would come to the people, God would punish them seven times longer if they did not repent during that time of punishment. So Daniel took both prophecies and multiplied 70 times 7, and realized that there would be 490 more years of judgment time for Israel. It was then that God sent to Daniel a revelation to reveal more details of the 490 years that were to be given to Israel.
"I am now come to give thee understanding... 70 weeks (490 years) are determined."
In order for us to understand prophecy, a detailed study of the Word of God and its prophecy should be undertaken. There is prophesied a time in the last days when prophetic knowledge will cover the earth as waters cover the sea.
"For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea."
There is also prophesied that in the last days, a famine for the hearing of the Word of God, despite a hunger and thirst for it, would come. This time of ignorance of the Bible's prophetic message is predicted for the same time as the flooding of the earth with prophetic knowledge. How can this be?
"...last days... famine... of hearing the words of the Lord... they shall wander from sea to sea... run to and fro to seek the word (revelation) from the Lord, and shall not find it... in that day the fair virgins, and the young men shall faint for thirst."
The difference is that the prophetic knowledge is there, it is being given, and has already been given in the Word of God, yet though some will enjoy it, many others will faint from a thirst and hunger for it. It is not because it is not there to be fed upon, it is because they will not hear the truth. The famine is not one of lack of prophecy, it a famine because of lack of "hearing" the Word.
How do we hear and study Bible prophecy? Are you ready to dig in the Word and learn what God has revealed in prophetic teaching already? Are you willing to search out all the signs of the fulfillment of God's prophetic word?
12. You know where those who sin are bound, and You know the end blessings for those who are righteous.
13. If there were not a heaven for which to hope, life would be so bitter.
14. What profit is there to strength which turns to weakness, or abundance of food which turns to famine, or beauty that turns to ugliness.
15. The lot of man is to change.
16. We have changed from what we were, and what we are now, we shall not afterwards remain.
17. If the future has no reward for the righteous, or no punishment for the wicked, then in vain would have been their beginnings.
18. Concerning all that You do, I wish to be informed, and please answer all that I ask.
19. How long will the evil remain, and how long will these mortals prosper, until the time when they will reap what they have sown in the earth?
Are you going to tune in to God's revelation of more "visions" and "dreams" that are prophesied to come in the last days? (Joel 2:28-29) As Christians, we should be anxious and expectant of God's enlightenment of prophetic truth. Since we are in the last days, we should be building upon all the former prophecies. We should be at a peak of understanding, and not in a valley of ignorance.
Some say that prophecy is a mystery, and therefore we should not study it. But God wants us to know, and He gave us one third of the Bible as prophecy. Some read I Corinthians 2:9, but fail to read verse 10:
I Corinthians 2:9-10
"Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath it entered into the heart of man, the things that God hath prepared for them that love Him, but God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit."
The Bible does speak of mysteries and hidden truths. At some points in God's revelations, men are not to know certain truths. When finally ready, the Spirit does reveal these mysteries. Paul spoke of the mystery of the church. Paul explained what had been kept hidden from the prophets until after the rejection of Jesus by the Jews. For God to have revealed the mystery of the church earlier would have caused some to say that God wanted and caused the Jews to reject Jesus. Jesus spoke of judgment on the church to come someday, and said that until that moment, it had been a "mystery" (Matt.13). In the book of Revelation, Jesus reveals 7 seals, 7 trumpets, and 7 vials of judgment. However John is not allowed to reveal the 7 thunders of judgment.
The Gentiles were promised blessings since the time of Abraham.
"In thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."
Rahab, Ruth, and others pre-shadowed this blessing on the Gentiles. To Peter, however, this prophetic mystery was revealed in greater measure.
Daniel was a book that was to be sealed from full understanding until the last days. The Jews never understood the prophetic significance of the book of Daniel. Now in these last days we are beginning to fully understand Daniel.
People often rebel against new revelations. The Jews did in Jesus' first coming. The Jews, before the captivity to Babylon, refused to heed the warnings of God's true prophets. And now, many say- "That's not the way I heard it." Yet, a more complete revelation and understanding of the prophecy of the Bible is being poured out on God's prophets in these days. The truth of the Bible is not changing, but more understanding of its prophetic message is being given.
20. Give the mercy that You desire, so that Your might may be seen by those who think Your long-suffering is frailty.
21. Show to those who are ignorant that the preceding blessings that we and our city have had, was due to Your long-suffering, for we are Your beloved people.
22. But this shows us that every one therefore is capable of failure.
23. Rebuke therefore the 'angel of death' and appear in Your glory, that the might of Your beauty may be seen. Cease to allow Sheol to receive more dead, but rather resurrect those who have already passed from this world.
24. For there have been many years of desolation and death since Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. All those who were like them are those for whom You said that You created the earth.
25. Show Your glory now, and do not forget Your promises.
26. When I had completed those words of prayer, I felt powerless.
Long before the creation of Adam and Eve, there was a previous creation on this earth. Lucifer was to lead the humans of this earth in worship of God. When Lucifer rebelled, many angels and these humans failed with him. The spirits of that creation did not go to hell, but roam the earth. As dis-embodied spirits they seek to possess the bodies of humans in the Adamite creation.
These pre-Adamite humans were the "nations" that were "weakened" by Lucifer:
"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!...
The leader of these pre-Adamite human spirits is called Sammael. The abode of these dis-embodied spirits during the time of judgment and darkness on the earth, was sheol. That is why, when in Revelation 13:11 it speaks of "another beast coming up out of the earth", this is reference to Sammael, the evil demonic ruler in Sheol. It is Sammael who will someday inhabit the false prophet.
Sammael, is known as 'the angel of death' and the 'angel of the underworld of sheol'. Down through the ages, many of these dis-embodied spirits have impersonated dead people. Pretending to be some of the humans that they have observed in the past, they gave rise to what we call "necromancy". Therefore, this necromancy (supposedly talking to the dead, but in reality talking with demonic beings through demon empowered mediums) became very predominant in Israel, and later in most of the rest of the world.
Necromancy begins with a false teaching about death. The devil and his cohorts have tried to pervert the idea of "death" down through the ages. God, long ago, warned: "the day that thou eatest, thou shalt surely die." (Gen. 2:17). It was spiritual death that God spoke of, and it is spiritual death that is the real threat to mankind. Real death is the loss of spiritual life.
"...to be spiritually minded is life and peace."
When mankind begins to believe the lies of the devils about death, and believe that the spirits of the dead remain in their graves, or tombs, and can be called back by a "skilled" person, it leads to people wanting to communicate with them. When the fresh teaching of the truth about sheol, (as a place to which dead souls departed, the righteous ones to paradise (until Christ's resurrection), and the unrighteous ones to hell..) this heresy called 'necromancy' is eradicated. Neither the righteous, nor the unrighteous are lying in a grave awaiting someone to call them back to talk. They are either in heaven or hell.
In reality, when the spirit of man is dead in sins, the whole being is dead though the body may still function. The devils want to make us fear the death of the body only and this fear of bodily death is a trick of devils and leads to bondage.
"And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage."
Jesus came to destroy the devil and take away the fear of physical death and restore to the saints the eternal life we can have through Him.
"through death, He might destroy him that hath the power of death, that is the devil."
Sammael, as the angel in Sheol, the angel of death, or of the underworld, is the main cohort of the devil that is to instigate fear of physical death, and distract mankind from real death. He inspired Manasseh to saw Isaiah in half (Apoc. of Isa. 6:41). He is a subordinate to Belial (Apoc. of Isa. 7:8). Yet, before the death of Nimrod, this false god was considered to be greater. The half angelic human spirits are more powerful than the spirits of humans. Therefore, Belial and the ruling powers are more powerful than Sammael and the wicked spirits like him.
Sammael means "venom of God". He is spoken of much in Jewish literature, both Talmudic and post-Talmudic. He is called the "prince of devils" (Deut. rabb. 11:9). Sammael is his name, and his title is "Malchira" meaning "evil king" (Apoc. of Isa. 7:8). In the time of Isaiah, Belial inhabited mainly Manasseh, while Sammael concentrated on Belchira, the false prophet.
It is Sammael who will give power to the False Prophet to do miracles, though the presence of Belial will also be required:
"And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men."
"And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth, by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast."
"And he (false prophet) had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed."
Down through the ages, Sammael has been worshipped under many different names:
Nebo, or Nabu
Nergal (wife, Eresh-Kigal)
angel of death
god of the underworld
At the end of the tribulation, the evil spirits who inhabit the Antichrist and the False prophet will go with those beings to the lake of fire:
"And the beast... the false prophet... were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of Him that sat upon the horse."
"By faith" we, the saints, are to cast out these demonic powers. In fact, the Antichrist cannot be revealed until we, the saints of the church age, are taken from this world, for we hinder his power.
II Thessalonians 2:7-8
"...he who now letteth (hinders) will let (hinder) until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked One be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming."
Sammael leads the lowest class of demons, the "wicked spirits" of Ephesians 6:12. These demons are fighting as never before. It is time to put demons into the abyss, lest they hinder the revival of the last days. Many have ignored the demonic powers, but they have not gone away. It is time to battle and bind and cast them into the abyss! Evil demons, and evil powers are battling the saints of today. They are very angry knowing that their time is short, but we have the power of the Lord to defeat every evil power out there.
"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In My name shall they cast out devils."
Following this questioning prayer of Baruch, we will see a shockingly prophetic revelation given to Baruch for the purpose of passing it on to us.
