18. THEN & NOW, REVIVAL IS A SERIES  OF ILLUSTRATED LESSONS FROM GOD

If one is filled with the Holy Spirit, their lives become illustrated lessons. The Holy Spirit has one of His missions to teach us 'all things'. He is in the business of showing us, teaching us.

Some days, we turn on Christian radio, and the sermon is on what the Lord was talking to us in our prayer time. Our Bible falls open to another passage that confirms what the message said. Tomorrow, on Christian television we hear it again. The pastor at the church mentions it in His sermon. ON and ON... the Holy Spirit is doing miraculous ways to teach us something. The happenings in our lives become an illustrated lesson of the truth.

Mark 16:17
"And these signs shall follow them that believe.’

There are miracles and gifts that 'follow', but there are also other kinds of signs that we are Spirit filled, and learning in His classroom.

God wants His saints to be shown to be truly in God’s power. Therefore, signs and wonders will illustrate the life of the saints of God. The casting out of devils, the speaking with tongues, healing of the sick, are some of the illustrations that God bestows upon the saints. Yet, the signs of God's attention to what He is showing us for today's lesson keeps coming.

The word ‘sign’ is from the Greek word ‘seimeion’ meaning a sign, or mark, an illustration.’

God gave Moses a message of God’s displeasure of Egyptian mistreatment of Israel. God illustrated it with the plagues upon Egypt. Those plagues were signs to Egypt, that they had better let His people leave. (Exodus 4:8, Joshua 24:7)

The miracles of Jesus were signs, illustrated lessons, demonstrating the relationship with God. (Mathew 12:38, John 2:8, Acts 2:22)

The word for ‘wonders’ is the Greek word ‘teras’, meaning a miraculous display or illustration of God’s power and wisdom.

There are other words used in the Word, to refer to the illustrations of God.

God, Who in His foreknowledge, has always known the plan and revelation of the new covenant with all its details. So, in the Old Testament, He shows in picture form, in types and figures, what would soon come to pass in reality.

Just as a picture of an absent loved one, is treasured and often viewed, while awaiting that one’s return... so a type in the Old Testament, showed the image of what was to someday come in reality. The reality is the truly valuable and loved, as a lamb on the altar of burnt offering showed in type the sacrificial nature of Jesus. When Jesus came, the lamb, though a beautiful picture, is not preferred to the reality of Jesus.

Yet, the picture of the lamb, is a beautiful way to teach the reality of Jesus’ nature and work for us. We can view in clearness, His way and manner of approaching the sacrifice He gave for us. Typology should not replace the reality, but should make the reality more clear, more understood. Types are an illustration of God’s message. God has always illustrated His truths.

We miss much if we do not get the groundwork of typology correct. It can also be related to the foundation of a building, and to have a good foundation in typology, strengthens the beauty and reality of the structure upon such foundation.

There are two kinds of truth in Scripture.

Hebrews 5:12-14
"For when for the time, ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness; for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age; even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."

Milk and meat, are one way to describe truths in the Word. Meat represents the deeper truths, and milk represents the basic, simpler truths. Typology contains both, and yet, by its nature, it is like a bridge, to carry us from the milk to the meat. It takes a truth, puts it in simple form, and then allows, or encourages, deeper seeking into that ‘milk’ truth, to find a ‘meat’ revelation.

I Corinthians 10:11
"these things, written for our admonition’

The Lord amazes me in how He keeps leading me to what He is working on in my life... I find passage after passage, hear sermon after sermon, find advertised and buy book after book, and in prayer times, the Holy Spirit begins to explain all He is showing me.

Hebrews 8:4-5
"Who serve as an example and shadow of heavenly things"

Hebrews 9:8-9
"which was a figure for the time present"

Hebrews 10:1
"... law having a shadow of good things to come..."

The words ‘shadow’, ‘example’, ‘pattern’... all contain the idea we refer to as ‘types’. Types are used to prefigure some person, thing, or event that would appear in the future. Types are a ‘sort of’ prophecy. Prophetically, types show us what was to come, and the type shows the foreknowledge and planning of an Almighty God.
God has not ceased to show in 'type' and lead to 'shadows' that illustrate truths we are being taught.

Now the 'demon influenced ones' also are shown types and shadows... but there is a great difference in reaction... see next post...

If one is demon influenced... that same school of the Holy Spirit is going on, but instead of acceptance of the Holy Spirit's illustrated lessons, and leadings to Scripture, gospel songs, preached sermons, to add to His lesson, confirming what He is telling... we find the demon influence will instigate 'anger', bitterness, encourage one to turn away from the lesson. If the lesson is on intercession, one will find themselves saying "I pray enough, I am tired of being told to pray more...' and other times... "I will never pray for that politician again, let him ...." and the lesson is lost due to 'interference on the reception line from the Holy Spirit.

It is like the 'parable of the sower'... the seed of teaching is sown by the Holy Spirit, but 'birds' come and snatch away the seed before it can take root.

The Holy Spirit comes to teach us 'all things' and we are all currently in His class, and the seeds are being planted, the lessons are coming... and if we are Spirit filled, the plant is growing, the knowledge is increasing, we are being taught with many illustrated lessons.

If we are not HOLY Spirit filled, the demon distractors are snatching away the seed, creating situations of rejection of the seed from the soil... with the hardness of our soil, the dryness of it, the weeds of false doctrine already growing where the new seed needs planted.

So... are you finding seeds of truth being taught, confirmed in many sources, Scriptures being given in abundance, confirmation from Godly preachers, etc. or is it a weedy, rocky, dry, unplowed field in the brain due to demonic influence and one's acceptance of that kind of life, instead of asking for the HOLY Spirit filling?  In revival, it is the confirmations of Bible truths taught in illustrated lessons by our Teacher, i.e. the Holy Spirit of Truth.
