THAT EZEKIEL WAS SHOWN
We all have different conceptions of heaven, hell, paradise, and the abyss. Some are far from the reality of heaven. Most are far from being Scriptural. Too often we accept what the Bible does not say. For instance:
Jesus was crucified on "good friday"...
Jesus was born on December 25th...
Adam and Eve ate a forbidden "apple"...
angels all have wings...
None of these are true, and yet many believe them. We need to constantly examine our beliefs, and seek Scriptural backing for our concepts. Many "beliefs" would necessarily change, if people would diligently "search the Scriptures." We are commanded to "study to shew thyself approved unto God." and yet, many barely skim the Bible.
Some see how many times they can read through the Word of God, and skim past precious truths. They are like fools trying to see how many times they can run through a room filled with precious and priceless gemstones. Running through with glee, merriment, and mirth, they fail to pick up and claim the gems they race past.
People often pass over words in the Bible, with which they are not familiar. Words in the Bible that are often mis-translated, skimmed and ignored are:
"ends of the earth"
"nether parts of the earth"
Let's re-examine the places mentioned in Ezekiel.
'NETHER PARTS OF THE EARTH'
Ezekiel 31:14, 16, 32:18, 24
"...they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit... I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell (sheol) with them that descend in the pit (bor); and all the trees of Eden, the choice and the best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth... Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her, and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the nether parts of the earth, with them that go down to the pit (bor)... which are gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet they have borne their shame with them that go down to the pit (bor)."
The word "nether" comes from the Hebrew word "tact ti". It means "the lower most," "depths," as "a womb," or "a pit..." So the "nether parts of the earth" are the parts within the earth.
What "parts" are in the nether parts? Ezekiel informs us that there is:
The Bible usually refers to this place as "sheol". "Sheol" is mentioned by name 65 times in the Old Testament. It is translated:
"grave" 31 times,
"hell" 31 times,
and "pit" three times.
It surprises many that the garden of Eden is within the earth, in sheol. It is in the "nether parts of the earth", in the womb of the earth.
The "nether parts of the earth" were protected from the flood. This is shown in Ezekiel 31;15, wherein "sheol" is called the "deep." The "waters of the deep" flooded the earth, in addition to the waters of 40 days rain... But the Lord had the waters pour out of the "deep", but then closed up the chasms from which the waters came. This protected the "nether parts of the earth" from the flood.
"I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed."
This is the same "garden of Eden" where Satan was:
"...so that all the trees of Eden, that were in garden of God, envied him."
Sheol is a place other than the graves in which the bodies of the dead are put. It is the place where all the spirits of the dead resided until the death and resurrection of Jesus allowed the righteous spirits to depart paradise and go directly to heaven. The wicked spirits of men and evil demons still are sent to this "sheol" to await judgment day.
Part of "Sheol" is called "Abraham's bosom."
"And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom."
This part of "Sheol" is also called "paradise".
"Verily, I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with Me in paradise."
Sheol is not the grave. The proper word for "grave" is the Hebrew word "qeber-mnaymion". That word is often translated "hell" and should not have been. The Hebrew word "sheol" and the Greek word "hades" should never be translated "grave". "Sheol" is often translated "hell" incorrectly.
"Sheol" is from the Hebrew word "she-owl". It refers to a "sub-terranean retreat, or underground place."
"I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell (sheol) with them that descend in the pit (bor); and all the trees of Eden, the choice and the best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth. They also went down into hell (sheol) with him unto them that be slain with the sword."
Ezekiel 32:21, 27
"The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell (sheol) with them that help him, they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, which are gone down to hell (sheol) with their weapons of war."
"Sheol" is synonymous with "nether parts of the earth."
It is referred to many times in the Bible. Some years ago, some scientists mocked the Christian concept of an underworld, wherein there is hell, paradise, and an abyss. The scientists claimed that inside the middle of earth was only molten metal. Many Christians felt unscientific, and felt that science had dis-proven the Bible. So many preachers and Bible teachers began to shy away from the Bible truths, and to omit explanation of even the word "sheol."
Science has recently proven that the earth is too light to be solid. They know that inside the earth somewhere is a very large empty area. Many scientists know this as the "hollow earth theory." It is accepted by even un-Christian scientists, for most Christians have never been taught enough in depth to know about "sheol". This teaching is more scientific than the "W.I.M.P.S." (Weak, Ignorant, Mortified, Pew Sitters) who have ignorantly accepted the watered down, perverted, and adulterated teaching found in most Christian circles.
The entrance to "sheol" is "down".
"...the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up... went down alive to the pit (sheol)... perished."
Sheol is said to be in the "heart of the earth."
"For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."
Sheol is in the "lower parts of the earth."
"When He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive... also descended first into the lower parts of the earth."
PARTS OF THE PLACE CALLED "SHEOL"
This is the torment part of "sheol". It is in the lowest part of sheol.
"... a fire is kindled... shall burn unto the lowest hell (sheol)."
"...Thou hast delivered My soul from the lowest hell (sheol)."
"her guests are in the depths of hell (sheol)."
The spirits of the wicked are tormented in the hell-fire in this lowest part of sheol.
"...certain rich man... beggar named Lazarus... in hell (hades) he (the rich man) lifted up his eyes being in torment."
"...the wicked shall be turned into hell."
The fire in the lowest part of sheol is literal.
"...a fire is kindled... shall burn unto the lowest hell (sheol)."
Everyone in this hell-fire of the lowest part of sheol, shall be brought out and judged at the great White Throne judgment. Then, with their resurrected, immortal bodies, they will be cast into the lake of fire.
"...rest of the dead lived not again until the 1000 years were finished... the dead, small and great, stand before God, and the books were opened... death and hell were cast into the lake of fire."
2. THE ABYSS, PIT, BOTTOMLESS PIT, TARTARUS
This place is a prison for angels. It is somewhat a place of temporary mercy... for they are not thrown into hell, or the lake of fire, but into a place of darkness. The truth of this place was perverted down through the ages, and finally wound up as the false doctrine of "purgatory." There is no such place as "purgatory" for the spirits of "not-so-perfect" humans to go and to await being prayed out of. No, but there is an "abyss" into which wicked, disobedient spirits await judgment day, wherein they will go to a greater punishment.
It is located under the earth, within sheol.
II Peter 2:4
"For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell (tartarus), and delivered them into chains of darkness to be reserved unto judgment."
It is a place of darkness.
"And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."
Instead of "abyss", Peter (in II Peter 2:4), used the word "tartarus". He borrowed this word from Greek writings. They used the word "tartarus" to refer to a place in the lower earth where the so-called "TITANS" (giants) were cast when they lost.
Evil angels and wicked spirits are bound in sheol in this part called "abyss, tartarus," and sometimes called the "pit". In fact, some of the spirits of the half human, half angelic, and gigantic, beings that are mentioned in Enoch, and in Genesis... are bound in this abyss.
"Knoweth not the dead (actually the word - rephaim, referring to these half human, half angelic giants) that are there, and that her guests are in the depths of hell (sheol)."
"... they (Rephaim) are deceased, they shall not rise (they shall never be resurrected), thou hast visited and destroyed them."
Genesis 6:1-4 tells us that there were giants in the world in those days. They were the result of fallen angels co-habiting with women of this earth. The giants born were an attempt of the devil to defile the seed of woman which was to bring forth a Messiah. God destroyed these giant beings in the flood, and the spirits of such are not all human, and therefore not subject to the possibility of salvation through the undefiled Seed of woman, i.e. Jesus.
In the large open, i.e. hollow, area of sheol, there is hell-fire in the middle, with Eden and paradise on the outer shell. In the middle of these two areas is the open area called the abyss. The abyss has equal gravity pulling in all directions, and therefore is seemingly a "bottomless" pit. It is the "great gulf" (Luke 16) mentioned in the story of the rich man and Lazarus, and is described therein as being between hell-fire and paradise.
Looking up from the inner shell of sheol, one would see hell-fire as we would see the sun as we looked up. Dark, black clouds orbit about this sun-like hell-fire. In these dark clouds of the area between paradise and hell-fire are the bound spirits of some fallen angels, and some wicked demonic beings who were disobedient, and some of the spirits of the half human, half angelic beings of Genesis 6:1-4. They are chained, bound, in this bottomless abyss.
3. ABRAHAM'S BOSOM, PARADISE, EDEN
Part of sheol is called "Abraham's bosom". Abraham's bosom was a phrase used by the Jews to refer to paradise. It is called paradise in Luke 23:43. It is located in the lower parts of the earth. Jesus told His disciples that He would be in the "heart of the earth for 3 days and 3 nights", and then He told the thief on the cross that he would be with Him "in paradise". Jesus also preached to "spirits in prison..." and took those "captive" in that place to heaven with Him when He ascended (Ephesians 4:8-10). "Paradise" is from the Greek word "paradeisos" and refers to "a park, a pleasure ground, a forest, or an orchard." In the Septuagint, the word "paradeisos" is used for the "garden of Eden".
Before the resurrection of Jesus, the righteous saints who died were buried bodily, but went in spirit to paradise. They could not ascend to heaven until the price for the penalty for sin was paid by Jesus on the cross. Christ then liberated them when He died on that cross, and later ascended to heaven.
"When He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now that He ascended, what is it but that He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that He might fill all things.)"
Angels carried the righteous souls to this place, but men carried the bodies to the grave. The beggar (Lazarus) was "carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom." (Luke 16:22-26). Jesus told the repentant thief on the cross, that "today thou shalt be with Me in paradise." (Luke 23:43).
Jonah went to paradise. While his body lay dead inside the fish, his spirit went to paradise.
Jonah 2:2, 6-7
"...out of the belly of hell (sheol) cried I... I went down to the bottoms of the mountains, the earth with her bars was about me forever."
This place called "paradise" was a temporary residence from God's wrath till Jesus died for sins.
"O that Thou wouldest hide me inthe grave (sheol). that Thou wouldest keep me secret, until Thy wrath be past, that Thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me."
There is no fiery torment in paradise as there is in hell-fire. They have water and other comforts in paradise.
"...all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth."
Christ Jesus, while there in paradise for three days, preached to spirits in paradise.
I Peter 3:19
"By which also He went and preached unto the spirits in prison."
Then He liberated the righteous spirits from that "prison" (though it only felt like a "prison" to those who impatiently awaited the crucifixion so they could go to heaven and see God upon His throne).
"...through death He destroyed him that had the power of death, i.e. the devil; and deliver them (of paradise) ... who were ... subject to bondage."
Now, since the resurrection of Jesus, the saints do not go to sheol/hades... but they go directly to heaven.
II Corinthians 5:8
"...to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord."
"...having a desire to depart and to be with Christ."
The garden of Eden, which has a small part of it containing the tree of life, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, is within sheol, and just east of the place where the spirits of the righteous awaited Christ to come. The book of Enoch tells us much of these trees, and of Zotiel, who guards this beautiful garden. It was spared the destruction of the flood of Noah, and the tree of life is protected awaiting the time when people will be allowed to partake of it, as promised in the Bible.
4. OPENINGS TO SHEOL
In the Bible, these openings down into the earth to sheol are called "ends of the earth." The word "ends" is from the Hebrew word "kanaph". This word refers to "a place of withdrawal," "a place where one can remove from."
"that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it? It is turned as clay to the seal, and they stand as a garment."
These openings are also called the "gates of death" and "doors".
"Have the gates of death been opened unto thee... or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?"
These openings are large enough to allow air to pass out of them.
Jeremiah 51:16 (see also Jeremiah 10:13)
"...He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth."
There will be much activity through these chasms of sheol during the last days.
"I am He that liveth and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen, and have the keys of hell and of death."
"...to Him was given the key of the bottomless pit, and there arose a smoke out of the pit... smoke... locusts."
"...an angel came down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit, and a great chain in his hand... cast him into the bottomless pit and shut him up and set a seal upon him."
Admiral Byrd's trip to the North Pole in 1947 took him down through one of these chasms into sheol. He radioed back, along with some others with him, as they progressed past the circle which makes up what we call the "North Pole." They came to an iceless land, lakes, mountains with trees, and saw a monstrous animal resembling a mammoth. These things were reported by all the occupants of the plane. For nearly 1700 miles, the plane flew over land, mountains, trees, lakes, and rivers. The land that he passed over must be inside the earth, not on it.
If one examines the flights of the airlines near the North Pole, it is obvious that they always go around the pole area, and not over it. The altimeter goes awry when flying over the chasm area, and the compass spins as they are within the circle of that chasm.
In February, 1947, Lt. Commander David Bunger, flew inland over Antarctica in a large transport plane. He reported seeing an ice free land, with lakes of different colors (rusty red, green, and deep blue). Each lake was more than three miles long. He landed the plane on one lake, and found the water warm. This
A man of Nordic descent told Dr. Nephi Cotton of Los Angeles:
"I lived near the Arctic Circle in Norway. One summer my friend and I made up our minds to take a boat trip together, and go as far north as we could... strange new country... weather... warm... strange mountain... at a certain point the ocean seemed to be emptying... a vast canyon... leading into the interior of the earth... saw a sun shining inside the earth... animal and vegetable life abounds... plants are big... trees are gigantic... we came to giants... homes, towns... grapes as big as peaches."
Another Norwegian, Olaf Jansen, in a book entitled "THE SMOKEY GOD", as written by Willis G. Emerson, refers to a central sun that appeared to be 'smokey'. Olaf, reportedly, spent two years in sheol. He entered through the northern chasm, and exited through the southern chasm. His father lost his life when an iceberg broke in two pieces, as they were in the Antarctic ocean. The son, Olaf, spent two years in prison for insanity because of his story. On his death, he released maps that he had made, and told his story to Emerson. This was published in 1908. He said that the people that he met therein lived 400 to 800 years. He described them as highly advanced in science. They used sources of power greater than electricity. Some of the people he saw were of gigantic size, approaching 12 feet.
The Bible tells us that the Rephaim still exist in sheol, and the Bible also tells us of Korah and his followers who were sent alive down into sheol. Descendants of these groups possibly have survived to this day.
The total surface of the earth is 197 million square miles. The estimated weight of the earth is 6 septillion tons. If the earth were solid, its weight would be much greater. Scientists have much such evidence to know the earth is hollow.
William Reed, in his book of 1906, taught about a hollow earth, with a crust of 800 miles, and an interior diameter of the hollow part of 6400 miles. Since his book and theory started, there has been much evidence discovered to back up the concept.
In 1799, a fisherman, Schumachoff, living in Tongoose, Siberia, discovered a complete Mammoth, frozen in clear ice. He removed the tusks, and left the carcass to be eaten later by wolves. Later, an expedition was sent to examine this discovery. Today, its skeleton is to be found in the Museum of Natural History in Leningrad.
Other strange facts that scientists have a hard time explaining without the fact of sheol being considered are:
musk ox migrate north in the winter...
butterflies and bees are found in the far north...
even mosquitoes found in the far north...
birds resembling snipe, but unlike any species here,
are seen migrating to the north
and then back south in the spring...
farther north one notices warmer weather...
icebergs are all composed of fresh water...
tropical seeds, plants and trees float
in the fresh water of these same icebergs...
the wind from the north carries far more pollen
than any wind of the southern regions of the outer world...
colored pollen colors the snow in the far north...
the remains of mammoths, hairy rhinoceros, hippopotamus,
lions, hyenas, and lions are found in icebergs...
The Aurora Borealis (northern lights) have long baffled scientists. Many theories have been proposed to explain such phenomena. All are unproven, and unexplainable. But allow me to offer another, that the truth of sheol allows us, these lights are the reflection on particles in the atmosphere of the light from the hell-fire, the central sun, of sheol.
Understanding these places helps us understand what the Book of Revelation is speaking of when it talks of ‘abyss’, and ‘hell’, etc.
