SOME CRITICIZE THE BIBLE, AND SAY: "THE BIBLE IS NOT SCIENTIFIC, AND IT TEACHES UN-SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION, AND HAS TO BE CORRECTED BY SCIENCE". IS THAT TRUE?

Science is ‘proven knowledge’. Since God is omniscient, His Word and true science cannot be in disagreement.

The apparent conflict between science and the Bible is due to two things:

1. The dependence of scientists on theories, conjecture, and assumptions causes them to teach conclusions drawn from such, as though they were actually true.

2. Some Christians try to extract scientific information from parts of the Scripture that is not scientific. The Bible does not contain anything scientifically false.

"Scientific teaching’ is constantly being updated. What was though to be ‘science’ several years ago, is changed by emerging facts.

If the Bible were a scientific textbook, it would have been outdated long ago.

The Bible is the Word of God, and is filled with true knowledge. Mankind seeks to find true knowledge, and in its search finds a part of the great knowledge there is to find.

When actual scientific truth is found, it is discovered that the Bible was not in disagreement with that, but was in perfect harmony with truth.

Greek mythology taught that the world rested on the shoulders of Atlas. Yet, it was the Bible that taught that ‘God hangs the earth upon nothing’. (Job 26:7).

Many have tried to teach that the Bible, and Christianity had taught that the earth was flat. That is patently wrong.

These errant attackers of the Bible and of Christianity claim that the church persecuted Copernicus, Galileo, and Giordano Bruno for their view that the earth was a planetary body revolving about the sun.

Yet, Copernicus was not persecuted, but died a natural death the same year that his ideas were published.

Galileo was not persecuted either. He insisted that the church immediately accept his ideas, and while they were being studied, he mocked Pope Urban VIII and was censured for such attack. The church continued to pay his salary, and it was his own political ambitions, not his scientific ideas that brought him censure. He acknowledged this himself.

Bruno was executed by the church of Rome in 1600. This execution was due to his pantheism, his heretical views on the Trinity, and the incarnation. His persecution was not due to his scientific ideas.

The whole idea that the church taught that the earth was a flat center of the universe, is not true.

Scholars in the days of Columbus knew that the earth was round. Columbus sailed west expecting to find India, which all maps showed to be southeast, not west. The continent of the Americas was the surprise that stood in his way. Even the ancient Greeks knew that the earth was round.

It was Washington Irving who created the myth that the earth was believed to be flat by Columbus. Washington Irving fabricated evidence to try to show that in his four volume history of Columbus. Since that time, many ‘unscholarly’ writers have included that false idea into their attack of Christianity. In the middle ages, even before Columbus, it was widely taught, even in schools of the church, that the earth was round, and even its approximate circumference was known.

Many scientists had long taught that the number of stars was around 5000. Yet, it was the Bible that was deemed scientific when that was discovered to be immensely untrue, for the Bible taught ‘the host of heaven cannot be numbered.’ (Jeremiah 33:22)

The Bible tells of the ‘water system’ of the earth. Ecclesiastes tells us that ‘all the rivers flow into the sea, yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, there they will flow again.’ And of course, now science knows that the waters evaporate, fall as rain, form bodies of water that will evaporate, and begin the process again.

The Bible, in Ecclesiastes, also tells of the circular movements of earth’s winds. ‘Toward the south, then turning towards the north, the winds continue swirling along on its circular courses.’

The attack that says the Bible is not ‘scientific’ is without substantiation.

Yet, of course, some will say, ‘the Bible says that the sun rises and sets’. And of course, it does. And it does from the naked eye to be the case. That is why we call that figurative language, and it is used much today by scientists and the uneducated alike.

We still are told the times of the ‘sunset’ and ‘sunrise’ on most every weather forecast. This is not meant to be the ‘weatherman’ promoting the flat earth, center of the universe earth theory. No, we all know that this is figuratively speaking by him, and likewise the Bible.

The so-called ‘scholars’ who say the Bible is ‘unscientific’, are not ‘scholars’ but are ‘sceptics’ whose message is ‘heresy’.

MORE TO COME...
