WHAT HAPPENS TO US,
IF WE DO NOT REPENT OF OUR SINS REGULARLY?
When we get saved, we are cleansed from all guilt of sin, but our nature enters then into a sanctification process wherein we grow in righteousness, and become more and more like Jesus.
But... what of those who do not regularly repent of new failures and sins? There are some who have never repented since the initial repentance. The Bible does answer that.
I John 1:9
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
This cleansing of our old nature, the forgiven, but still not perfect person, continues throughout our lives. We are never perfect, and infallible, but we get more and more like Jesus ‘if we confess our sins...’ and get into the process of being ‘cleansed from all unrighteousness.’
This constant cleansing from ‘missing the mark’ keeps us ;moving the proper direction in our redemption.
Yet, the world has not this relationship with the Lord. The sins of our nation abound, and it is hard to watch the news for they are filled with degrading sins, horrible lifestyles, hatred, vengeance, anger, and the resulting pains of those things.
Sometimes we see some who one time repented of their past sins, but following sins, and current sins, are left un-confessed to the Lord. Paul shares a list of sins that begin to more and more take control of those who do not keep ‘confessing’ their sins.
So, we have a choice, of either getting into the ‘cleansing from all unrighteousness process, or be in the ‘defiled more and more in the degradation of sins, till we are ‘filled with unrighteousness’.
Romans 1:29-32 (KJV)
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Note the sins listed by Paul in what sins abound when one is ‘filled with unrighteousness’, rather than ‘confessing our sins’ so we can be ‘filled with all righteousness.’
Note the definition of the original words used by Paul, in describing the degenerate state of those filled with unrighteousness:
= Gk. adikia, = sinful deeds
= Gk. pornia = unlawful sex sins
= Gk. poneria = depravity (void of any goodness)
= Gk. pleonexia = lust for gain
= Gk. kakia = a vicious disposition
= Gk. = phthonos = pain felt at the sight of another's blessings
= Gk. phonos = the taking of another's life
= Gk. eris = to cause strife and dissension
= Gk. dolos = lying, falsity
= Gk. kakoetheia = to put bad motives to everything, to think evil of
= Gk. psithuristes = secret detractors, to gossip behind one's back
= Gk. katalalos = liars about people not present
"haters of God"
= Gk. theostuges = condemners of God, to blame God scornfully
= Gk. hubristes = boisterous insolence
= Gk. huperephanos = glory in self
= Gk. alazon = arrogant braggarts
"inventors of evil things"
= Gk. epheuretes = originators of things to draw others into evil
"disobedient to parents"
= Gk. apeithes = unpersuadable, irreverent, and rebellious to parents
= Gk. asunetos = ignorant and unable to understand spiritual things

"without natural affection"

= Gk. aspondos = refuses to fellowship or befriend
= Gk. aneleemon = pitiless, unyielding, without mercy
These sins all abound in so great a measure in this nation, and in the whole world. They have not learned to confess their sins, get saved, and then continue confessing sins, so that the sanctification process of cleansing our nature can continue.
