WHAT DOCTRINES INDICATE ONE IS INFLUENCED
BY EVIL SPIRITS, NOT THE HOLY SPIRIT?
I Timothy 4:1-3
NOW THE SPIRIT SPEAKETH EXPRESSLY, THAT IN THE LATTER TIMES, SOME SHALL DEPART FROM THE FAITH, GIVING HEED TO SEDUCING SPIRITS AND DOCTRINES OF DEVILS. SPEAKING LIES IN HYPOCRISY, HAVING THEIR CONSCIENCE SEARED WITH A HOT IRON. FORBIDDING TO MARRY... AND COMMANDING TO ABSTAIN FROM MEATS..."
1. FORBIDDING TO MARRY...
The sins of the flesh are a starting point, not the greatest of sins. We have all gotten angry, all had a moment of wrath, and did not end up on the most wanted list of the FBI.
In the last days, there are many false and heretical false doctrines after which some follow. These two mentioned here are especially disturbing to God.
Let me show:
The word ‘forbidding’ in the Greek, means ‘to hinder or to check’. And many doctrines and beliefs of many in these last days are hindrances, detriments to marriage and family. The society has begun to denigrate and cheapen marriage.
In the day in which Paul wrote, the society knew of the Essene community, which viewed marriage as something to only be done to carry on the race. It was allowed, but stringent rules had to be followed, and sexual union was only allowed in planning for children, and other contact, even socially was forbidden.
The gnostics of that day, saw marriage as something instituted by God of the Old Testament. To them, He was an evil demon, and His laws against adultery, and His plan for marriage, were attacked and hindered. Sexual debauchery with non-married partners was seen as the highest form of spirituality to them.
In our day, we find that marriage is still attacked, denigrated, and perverted, if at all possible, by the ones following demon doctrines and the seducing spirits.
One of the false doctrines now being tolerated in the church, is the allowing of un-marrieds in the church to co-habitate. In the 1960's, less that a half of one per cent of the households in this country were unmarried. In the 1980's, that rose to over 1 per cent. In the 1990's, that rose to over two per cent. Now, we are finding it is over 5 per cent of the households.
This is bad enough, but we are finding that the demons are making pastors consider it a sin-not-to-be-mentioned. They condone it, turn a blind eye toward it, refuse to identify and correct it. The motives are often money, or not wanting to lose the families of the couple if they are condoning it.
Some states report that already it is over 25 % of the couples. (California, Alaska, Washington). By the year 2010, one of every 8 homes in the nation have cohabiting, unmarried adulterers within.
The census bureau of the nation already claims that more than 4 million households of the nation are unmarried.
Today, one in 3 single women choose to live with their partner before marriage. In England, that number is 70%.
The religious status of those co-habiting, show that 8.2 per cent of the Mormons cohabitate, 20-24% of the Protestants, 23% of the Catholics, 32% of the Jewish, and 44% of the non religious. Thus we see that religion is not hindering by much what the unsaved, heathen do. The church has allowed the sinfulness of the heathen to become too common in the church.
Is this wrong? It is a shame that some have to ask that. Of course, God instituted marriage. God calls non-marital sex to be adultery, fornication. It is condemned often in the Bible. Those partaking of such sins are said not to go to heaven.
The risk of divorce for those married couples who co-habitated before marriage is 40-85 % greater than for those who did not cohabitate first. That means it is almost twice as likely for them to divorce, than for those who followed God’s plan.
Cohabiting women have been shown in tests and surveys to be more irritable, more anxious, more worried, and more unhappy than married women. This is likely due to the conviction of the Holy Spirit. The church has been hindering the Holy Spirit, by not preaching the Word of God concerning this sin.
Of cohabiting couples who have children in that arrangement, only 40 % of those children will see their parents marry. Of those who do marry, half of them will divorce.
Bill Brooks, executive director of the North Carolina Family Policy Council, said that studies have shown that those who cohabit before they are married are more prone to break up, and less stable in later marriage.
Those who cohabit without marriage, are sinning. It is called ‘adultery’ and ‘fornication’. 93 times in the Old Testament, we find such illicit intercourse is mentioned. Those who co-habit, and refuse to marry, suffer guilt, fear, and remorse.
‘Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer, and the sexually immoral."
The Lord has not changed His Word, and it is still not right for such sins to be amidst those in the church.
In North Carolina, there has been a statute since 1805 (200 years) against cohabitation. It is rarely enforced, but it is a shame that a ‘state’ can have a law against this sin, but the church has oft been guilty of condoning it, or refusing to state that it is sinful what many of its attenders are doing.
Six other states have similar laws (Virginia, West Virginia, Florida, Michigan, Mississippi, and North Dakota). In January of 2005, North Dakota upheld the law against cohabitation by a 52-37 vote in its legislature.
In Charlotte, North Carolina, U.S. Magistrate, Carl Horn regularly asks defendants of other crimes if their living arrangements violate the cohabitation law. He refuses to release them unless they promise to comply.
It is a shame that some outside the church have more morality than many ministers.
This slip in morality, this errant doctrine of demons, is crippling move of the Spirit toward the revival He wished to instill in the churches.
The demons of the last days are spreading false doctrines are also called ‘seducing spirits’. They have ‘seduced’ many a minister to ignore these blatant sins.
The hindering of marriage, by condoning co-habitation, is a hindering of marriage. This is a widespread false doctrine, and some 'depart from the faith' to do this. In fact, many have 'departed from the faith' to live in adultery. Some of them even have a 'seared conscience' concerning it.
To be filled with the Holy Spirit, we must not be condoning, nor participating in this ‘doctrine of devils’.
If we are Holy Spirit filled, we will not be condoning nor participating in the doctrines of devils.
2. "AND COMMANDING TO ABSTAIN FROM MEATS"
The word for ‘commanding’ in the Greek is ‘apecomai’, and means ‘to hold oneself off, to refrain from.’
The Jews had stringent food laws, and in the New Covenant they were done away, and all things foodwise became clean. Some in these last days are trying to reinstitute food laws, and other similar O.T. laws that do not apply to our day as a way of salvation.
The great emphasis today on food has made this easy. How much fat in it, how much salt, what kind of sweetener is used, etc are added to even the stringent laws of the Jewish people.
The idea is that they will tell others that they should not eat ‘meats’. Some go so far as to make it sinful, some just teach that certain ‘meats’ are deadly, and some just want to waste time teaching ‘diet’, and get some healthy bodies to go to hell, rather than an unhealthy one to go to heaven. The over-emphasis of such things, to the neglect of winning souls, is a trick of the devil. The Bible calls it being taken up with the ‘cares of this life’.
"WHICH GOD HATH CREATED TO BE RECEIVED WITH THANKSGIVING OF THEM THAT BELIEVE AND KNOW THE TRUTH."
God has created all food to be taken and enjoyed. The garden was filled with foods, Jesus ate meats, and Peter was told to bring in the Gentiles to the church who ate pork and other meats considered ceremonially unclean. The reason we are to eat such with ‘thanksgiving’, is that God gave them for mankind, for his diet.
"FOR EVERY CREATURE OF GOD IS GOOD, AND NOTHING TO BE REFUSED"
The word ‘creature’ means ‘created thing’. All creatures of God are made to be eaten. Some way, cooked in some way, every creature of the animal world is edible, beneficial, and can be delicious. Some may ‘frown’ at the thought of eating oysters, or snails. The thought of locusts to some may seem nauseating... But God made this planet for mankind.
The word ‘refused’ is from the Greek word ‘apobletos’ meaning ‘cast off, rejected’. We do not need to ‘cast off’, nor ‘reject’ any kind of meat.
"IF IT BE RECEIVED WITH THANKSGIVING"
The word for ‘thanksgiving’ is the Greek word ‘eucharistia’, meaning ‘gratefulness.’ There is too much complaining to God and about diet, of this or that being ‘bad’ for one. If done in moderation, the diet God has planned for mankind is good, and we should be thankful, grateful. Lack of gratitude at the ‘diet’ of God for mankind, is an insult to God.
"FOR IT IS SANCTIFIED BY THE WORD OF GOD AND PRAYER"
The word for ‘sanctified’ is the Greek word ‘hagiazo’ and means to be ‘made holy’, ‘purified’. The Word of God and prayer will bless any meal. We are to entreat God to bless our food, we are to speak the Word of God over it in such blessing.
"IF THOU PUT THE BRETHREN IN REMEMBRANCE OF THESE THINGS, THEN SHALT THOU BE A GOOD MINISTER OF JESUS CHRIST."
The word ‘remembrance’ is the Greek word ‘hupotithemi’ meaning ‘to place underneath, to suggest, to remind." The Lord wanted us to not only know that the Spirit is ‘expressly’ and adamantly speaking this message, but that we are to carry such message too, and if we do, we are ‘serving’ the Lord Jesus. This is not to be allowed to continue unchallenged. We are not to fight about what food to eat, but we are not to allow a false doctrine, that certain foods are sinful, certain foods would damn a soul if eaten. This false doctrine, this heresy needs condemned.
In that passage, you notice that it says that one of the doctrines of devils, one of their seducing teachings will involve ‘commanding to abstain from meats.’
The word for ‘meats’ is the Greek word ‘broma’. It means ‘food’ in general. It refers to food items that are either forbidden or allowed by the Jewish law. It means victuals, in general. The root word is ‘bibrosko’ which means ‘that which is eaten."
One of the ‘twistings’ of the devil and those who follow the demonic obsession, is that this word means ‘food ceremonially pronounced clean’. That is a perversion of the meaning of the word, and yet, many follow that interpretation of the Greek. That way, they justify their pronouncing of pork, ham, bacon, etc. as sinful in our day, as much as it was in the Old Testament. They are twisting the meaning, and I have witnessed some ‘evangelistically gifted ministers, follow that false teaching, without doing some Bible study to verify.
Peter was given a vision of a large cloth, holding meats, animals of both the clean and unclean. Peter refuses to partake of that which had been taught to him to be ‘unclean’.
"PETER SAID, NOT SO, LORD, I HAVE NEVER EATEN ANYTHING THAT IS COMMON OR UNCLEAN."
"WHAT GOD HATH CLEANSED, THAT CALL NOT THOU ‘UNCLEAN’."
The word for common means ‘defiled’ or ‘forbidden by the law.’ Peter was protesting his innocence, and his reluctance to ever do what he had been taught to be evil. God says that He can ‘cleanse’ that which is ‘unclean’. For there to Peter (Acts 10:15), it says, ‘what God hath cleansed’. The word for ‘cleansed’ is the Greek ‘katharidzo’ meaning ‘to make clean’, ‘to purify’, ‘to ‘purge.’ And God lets us know that what He has cleansed is not to be called ‘common’ or ‘unclean’. That is a command, not a suggestion. Some today are disobeying that command, and calling some foods to be ‘unclean’ and ‘common.’
The word ‘common’ is from the Greek ‘koinos’, meaning ‘shared by all’, and refers to the ‘ceremonially unclean, the profane, the defiled, the unclean, the unholy.’ The word ‘unclean’ is from the Greek ‘akathartos’, which means ‘uncleansed, impure, ceremonially or morally lewd, demonically foul or unclean.’
So, since ‘broma’ means ‘food in general’, and God can cleanse all that once was called ‘unclean’, we should not, we must not, condemn any food as sinful.
How is food to be ‘cleansed’? Any food can be made holy, pure, and clean. And it is to be done by ‘prayer’ and the ‘Word of God.’
I Timothy 4:5
"SANCTIFIED BY THE WORD OF GOD AND PRAYER."
Some depart from the faith in our day by going back to seeing things like 'food laws' as a means of salvation. We call this galatianism. Others undo law and go to lasciviousness, or a license to sin, as those hindering marriage, and instead just co-habituating.
So, one false doctrine of each extreme is shown, neither galatianism nor giving a license to sin is godly, and both extremes will see some depart from the faith.
