We live in a world of lies. Politicians lie, salespeople lie, children lie, mates lie, advertisers lie, and now unfortunately, even preachers lie. Hardly anyone could honestly say that they believe that politicians do not lie, especially when they are campaigning for the political office. And it is not just politicians, we all have heard and seen salespeople with wild claims from their lying lips. Too many of us have shrugged our shoulders and thought that this is just part of selling, or part of politics.

Every person is responsible for their actions. Lies are still condemned by the Lord. God hates lying, and the Lord tells us that He is the TRUTH, and the Holy Spirit is the ‘SPIRIT OF TRUTH.’

John 14:6 (KJV)

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

John 16:13 (ASV)

13 Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He shall guide you into all the truth: for He shall not speak from himself; but what things soever He shall hear, these shall He speak: and He shall declare unto you the things that are to come.

If we are redeemed by One known as the Truth, and now taught by the Spirit Who guides us into all truth, how can we be so gullible to believe all the lies, all the prevarications of this world?

One politician several years ago was listening to a speech in congress by the president of the country. After hearing one statement from the podium, the man shouted ‘That’s a lie.’ He received much bad press for having been so bold, but when the facts were checked, the statement that had been made was proven to be undeniably untrue. The man was correct in his calling the a ‘lie’. How much more should we be inwardly aware of lies, if the Holy Spirit that fills us is the ‘Spirit of Truth’, and our Savior is ‘The Truth’, how can we not be aware, spiritually discerning the lies?

How many times has the Spirit tried to shout out to us ‘that’s a lie’, but many are too busy smiling, condoning, accepting of the lies and the liars to even give a frown of disapproval.

The lies of advertisers, the lies of politicians, the lies of even preachers should have an inward check, the feeling of the upset of the Spirit of Truth within us. We are to be aware of truth, and those who are not, are questionable as to their spiritual maturity.

When we get that inward confirmation from the Spirit that something is a lie, we don’t often need to shout it out, but we could at least pray for the liar, pray that the truth be revealed, pray that righteousness would again be evident in our nation, instead of lying.

As long as we enable and support liars, or even worse, become like those we smile when they lie, we will never have a better government, never have a trustworthy marketplace, never have a sermon we can trust to be free of heresy.

To lovingly, in a Christian way, speak out a requirement for truth does not make us evil persons, the liars are being evil, sinful, and should not be condoned by Christians.

By rejecting the lies, by rejecting the liars, due to their unscrupulous lies, and exposing (in a Christian manner) that those are lies, instead of allowing lies to be unchallenged, we may see a day of repentance long needed.

The Bible speaks much about the SIN of LYING. There are many passages far to long ignored by the church even, that show God’s opinion of lying. This is not anti- a political party message, this is an ‘anti’ lying discussion. I find lies in all political parties, I find lies being accepted by adherents of all political parties. I am not attacking the persons, but the lies. I am not attacking the liars, but am showing that the ‘Christians’ who love and accept lies and liars, are not in harmony with the One called the Truth, or the Spirit of Truth Who is trying hard to be our Teacher in this church age.

John 8:44-47 (KJV)

44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

If we are ‘of God’, we will hear ‘His words’ and know them to be truth. If we are hearing lies, spawned from the devil, and believing them, unchecked in our spirits by the Holy Spirit, we need to ‘examine’ ourselves. The ‘natural man’ does not receive the words of the Spirit of God, and considers His truths to be ‘foolishness’. We, though, as spiritual, should ‘have the mind of Christ.’ We should recognize truth, and all lies should be revealed to be lies by the Spirit Who works in us.

One president had a revelation of his lies in a lying escapade called Watergate. The perjury, wiretapping, burglary, and long attempted coverup was exposed, proven, and the president resigned. There were several of the conspirators in that sinful undertaking, that came to find Jesus as Merciful Savior during the expose of the sins. Had it been hidden, accepted, condoned, or ignored, these two souls may have not been saved. One recently died, and had a ministry in his ending years, of preaching to those in jail. He admitted his former sins, and encouraged repentance. The calling to an end of those lies of Watergate, led to the salvation of many souls. Yet, today, we find Christians applauding liars, voting for liars, and ignoring the lies of any in their own political camp. This is shameful.

In this current campaign for president, we have all witnessed liars and false accusation from many of the participants. Where is the Christian outcry? Why do many condone the lies of their own party, and condemn only the lies of the other party?

In American politics, some follow the rule from Leo Durocher, of ‘Nice guys finish last." That is errant. Nice Christian guys are going to finish in heaven, and ‘liars’ finish in the lake of fire, if they do not repent. That is Biblical truth, and ones who think being ‘nice’ or Christian will ruin their careers will find it ruined for them ‘eternity’.

Politics often see the voter as the ‘customer’ and the politician as the ‘product’, and the campaigners as the ‘salesmen.’ They will promise like a lying salesperson anything about the product that they think will sell their ‘product’. ‘No new taxes, lower unemployment, total blessings for all the hearers, and truth above all’ are promised. Lying is a weapon in their armory to be used whenever it is effective.

They use polls and focus groups to find out the concerns of the voters, they promise whatever the most of the people want to hear. Often, as we find out after the election, they had no intent to ever do those things, or the things promised were impossible to accomplish. Yet, the lie was still spread around as absolute truth. Their goal is to persuade voters at any cost.

One group is currently sending voter registrations to illegal aliens with a note that there is no way for anyone to know if they are not a citizen. They therefore are encouraging many to lie on the registration. Liars love company, and they feel less guilty if all around them are also liars. It is time that Christians quit condoning liars, quit electing those who lie, and begin to demand truth from all candidates.

Word manipulation is common amidst liars. The words are given special meanings, meanings are manipulated to make their lies sound truthful. Like the politician who said "it all depends on what the meaning of ‘is’ is". No, that politician lied, covered up, and still has not admitted many of his lies. Still, many Christians applaud him, and call him ‘great’. When are we ever going to demand truth?

If lies were exposed, if truth were demanded, if the campaigns had to honestly admit what they would do, we would have only honest men running for office.

Proverbs 12:22

Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord

Colossians 3:9

Lie not one to another, seeing ye have put off the old man, with his deeds.

Some will give many excuses for compulsive lying. They may say it is an ‘addiction to the thrill’, but if they tuned into the Holy Spirit, they would find that He is not thrilled.

Some say they lie due to ‘fear of repercussions from the truth’. Well, the repercussion of being a compulsive liar is found in Revelation 22, where liars and lovers of lies do not enter heaven.

Some say they lie to get rewards, political office, or a sale. The result of lying for those reasons is that the Truth, i.e. Jesus, and our Teacher of this age, i.e. the Holy Spirit of Truth, dwells with those who speak truth.

Some lie, they claim, due to their low self esteem. This is a hidden pride, masquerading as humility. How can we ‘esteem’ ourselves highly, if we are so unlike the One called the Truth, i.e. Jesus? Our ‘self esteem’ needs measured by our willingness to be taught by the Spirit of Truth.

First, be cautious.

Not all liars are easily identified. The devil’s angels often appear as ‘angels of light’. Many soft spoken, likeable, good looking, well educated, credentialed politicians are liars. Many likeable salespeople are liars. Many mates of years can suddenly become liars. Many children can be seduced by friends to begin lying. We need to be cautious in this world. We are not yet in a perfect heaven.

Secondly, talk with the Lord, listen to the Holy Spirit of Truth, search the Word for the truth.

This tenderness toward the Lord will make our ‘ears’ able to hear. The healing of the ears is a needed, greatly needed, healing that many need. The ears have heard lies, liars, in most media. The lies have come from the books, the television, the radio, the internet, the pulpit. And with all those lies, we need to open our ears to the Lord.

Revelation 2:7 (ASV)

7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.

Thirdly, do not over-respond.

The first thing to do about lies and liars, is to pray. Prayer, intercession, supplication should precede any vocal words. There are many times all we can do it pray. When God gives us words and directions of how to further proceed, we will be working in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Fourthly, always doubly check.

Do not make salesmen, politicians, and preachers your idols. Verify all that is told and spoken by its harmony with the gospel. If it is not harmonious with Scripture, it is false. If it is given a check by the Holy Spirit, it is false.

Fifthly, avoid, withdraw, quit condoning and defending the lies and liars.

To condone and aid a liar would make us a lover of those lies. We are to walk with Jesus in this world, and His path leads us down a different trail than the trail of the liar. If you can’t find a path with non-liars, let Jesus lead you to that lonely trail where only you and Jesus are walking. Yet, I believe, yes, I know, that there are some still, who want to walk with the One known as the Truth. We want to speak His name, and we want to stand with Him on all political questions. He is the One we glorify, not any liar.
