WE NEED ARMOR TO WEAR IN BATTLING EVIL SPIRITS
We are not to be "foxhole Christians." We are to attack the devil and his strongholds. God did not put us here on earth to suffer, die, and hope our defensive armor protects us till the rapture. We are supposed to be offensively minded toward the devil, and to tread on him and defeat his plans.
"AS THE FATHER HAS SENT ME, SO SEND I YOU..."
Did Jesus come to be beaten by the devil? No! He healed the sick, preached the Word, raised the dead, cast out devils, etc. In the same way, we are to attack the devil, demons, and the destructive work they are doing in this world.
These spirits try to hide themselves within, or obsessing upon, people,
so as to bring false doctrines into the faith. We are warned that in the last days this will be more prevalent.
I Timothy 4:1
"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times, some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils... Speaking lies in hypocrisy, .. Conscience seared with a hot iron... Forbidding to marry... Commanding to abstain from meats..."
False doctrines often have their origin from demon spirits. False teachings are often inspired by demons, with the twisting of Scriptures, providing dreams and visions, and imitation prophetic words given in moments of pretend inspiration.
I John 4:1-6
"Beloved, believe not every spirit (speaking of spiritual utterance) but try the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets are gone into the world."
We need to know our ENEMY. The enemies are evil spirts, we are told...
Ephesians 6:12-13 (KJV)
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
These are evil spirit beings, demons, fallen angels, that work against God and against God’s children in these last days. Especially before the rapture of the church, we shall see these ‘perilous times’ come. We need to be aware of what the Bible forewarns us.
Demon, is not found in the English KJV translation. The words ‘devils' and ‘evil spirit' are used. Yet, the word ‘demon' comes from the word translated to such, i.e. ‘diamon'. The word is usually translated ‘devils', and refers to an evil spirit, but the root word means ‘to distribute fortunes' and this is a common means of entry for demons. For they seek to offer persons what their hearts desire is, and when the person yields to that evil desire, the demons provide ‘accusations' for the angry and embittered, ‘curses' for the hateful, etc.
Another word translated devils, is diabolos, and means ‘Adversary, false accuser...'
(I Timothy 3:11, II Timothy 3:3, Titus 2:3) Where ever we see demons at work, there will be false accusations given against those who serve and worship Jesus. That is the nature of devils, that is their whole purpose. Like their head evil one, the devil, satan, the dragon, etc. who is also called ‘the accuser of the brethren', like father, like son.
Evil spirits are beings, and beings have personalities, traits, natures. Some act one way, and some are interested in other things. We are shown in Scripture, that they are organized, by the devil, into an army like organization, and we battle against them. Some lead groups of others, and they follow commands. Divisions, (if you will) are organized to fight the saints in certain ways.
We hear much of ‘unclean spirits’. In fact, this designation of a kind of evil spirit is used 21 times in the Bible.
"And in the synagogue, there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice. Saying, Let us alone; what have we do with thee, thou, Jesus of Nazareth? Art Thou come to destroy (apollumi, fully ruin) us? I know Thee, Who Thou art; The Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! For with authority and power, He commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out."
Unclean spirits are a kind of evil spirit, following an ‘unclean devil’, according to that passage. The unclean devil that leads them, is the evil ruling power, a higher level evil spirit leading the lower level one. This evil devil has gathered evil spirits, and organized them to be a ‘fighting division’ of the realm of satan. We are at war with them. They are evil, unclean, and totally proud of their evil.
There are many kinds of unclean spirits. Here we notice that this unclean spirit was in the synagogue. For unclean spirits are spirits that fight against saints, and those who seek to worship God. So, why does a fisherman go to the lake? Well, that is where the fish are. Why does an unclean spirit go to the church, and the gathering places of the Christians??? That is where the saints of God are.
Shall we flee where ever they may come? No, for they will follow us, where ever we go. We need to learn to ‘evict’ them, as did Jesus here in that passage of Scripture.
The word ‘unclean’ is from the Greek word akathartos. This has a negative particle, and the word for "cleansed." Thus the word means, un-cleansed, impure, foul, unclean. These are beings that are definitely recognizable, by their nature and evil all upon them, it is not hidden and obscure, but openly filthy and evil.
Some demonic beings try to hide their evil, and try to portray themselves as kind, gentle, forgiving, religious, etc. The Bible calls them ‘familiar’ spirits. But these ‘unclean’ spirits are not seeking to look holy. They are wanting to do evil openly and arrogantly.
The unclean spirits are evil inside and out, and their nature is not to hide, but to attack. We probably have all faced demonic attack in the last days. We were forewarned in the Word of God. We need to be able to not be stumbled by their attacks, and learn to defeat the enemy. We are given armor to wear, we are told to swing the ‘sword’, which is the ‘Word of God’. The devils fly in fear at the Word of God. We have a formidable weapon.
Let’s look at the OFFENSIVE ARMOR we wear spiritually in this battle.
