APOCALYPSE OF ELIJAH

CHAPTER 2:26-54

THE RETURN OF BELIAL

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:26-54

26. The evil spirit will demand sacrifices, and cause people to do abominations and bitter acts.

27. The evil spirit will appear below the sun and the moon.

28. Then the priests will tear their garments in shock and rejection.

29. Woe to those rulers, for their time is over.

30. The violence against the humble will make them reject and scatter the demons.

31. Economic crisis will come upon the cities of the earth. Marketplaces will be empty and collect only dust.

32. Those in the markets of the world will weep. They will desire to die, and be unable.

33. They will climb rocks, leap from them, saying, ‘fall on us’. Yet, they will not die.

34. A double portion of affliction will then come.

35. The evil spirit will command nursing women to be seized, and have blood taken from their breasts to be used as poison in battle.

36. Due to the wars, the demon spirit will demand that all boys, twelve and even younger, be trained for war.

37. Midwives will mourn in that time. She, who gives birth, will regret bringing a child to birth on the earth as it is.

38. The barren woman and the virgin shall rejoice, because they have no children upon the sinful earth. They will long to bear their children in the heavens.

39. Then three kings will come from Persia, and put in bondage the Jewish people of the land, and make many rush to Jerusalem to hide there.

40. If you hear, ‘There is peace and safety in Jerusalem, then tear your garments and weep, O priests, for the evil spirit of Belial will soon disrupt that peace.

41. At that time, the wicked one will enter the holy places.

42. The three rulers from Persia will then flee, and war with the four Assyrian rulers.

43. They will be three years in removing the wealth of the Temple.

44. Blood will flow from Nazareth to Jerusalem, and no one will be able to drink the water for three days.

45. Woe to the land, and to those within it.

46. A king will arise in the ‘city of the sun’, Beth-shemesh, in Naphtali, and the people will fear.

47. He will flee to the good city in the sixth year of the kings of Persia.

48. He will ambush the Assyrian rulers, and the Persian rulers, and will take vengeance on the people.

49. He will bring gifts to the Temple and say, ‘we all serve the same God."

50. The people will hail these Persian rulers.

51. Those who do not die in that conflict, will accept the one in whom the wicked one dwells, and accept him to be ‘the king of righteousness’. They will trust him to save the land.

52. This ruler will command that no taxes be given for three and a half years.

53. The land will prosper and have abundance.

54. The living will wish for the dead to arise and enjoy the time of peace and prosperity.

This portion of Elijah’s book shows us that Belial will be the source of inspiration of many evil events. Belial, in the abyss, has been planning for many centuries these events, but God has foreknown them.

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:26-27

26. The evil spirit will demand sacrifices, and cause people to do abominations and bitter acts.

27. The evil spirit will appear below the sun and the moon.

In Revelation 11, we see that a ‘beast’, i.e. a ruling power, found in the abyss now, is loosed, and ascends out of the abyss, to make war on the saints, and the people of God.

Revelation 11:7

And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast who ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

This ‘beast’, who is now in the abyss, but will be released, and war against the two witnesses, is named --BELIAL, He is the LEADER OF RULING POWERS OF DARKNESS, part ANGELIC, and part HUMAN SPIRITS, created when fallen angels co-habited with women of this earth, preceding and following the flood.

Belial is the one called "the ruler of this world". The Bible refers to him:

as "the prince of this world" (John 12:31, 16:11),

and as "the god of this world" (II Cor. 4:4).

He is the head of the "rulers of the darkness of this world".

Ephesians 6:12 shows different levels of evil spirits.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against:

1. principalities (fallen arch angels)

2. powers (fallen angels)

3. rulers of the darkness of this world (half-angelic, half human spirits)

4. wicked spirits in the heavenlies... (pre-adamite human spirits of a creation before Adam)."

In the book of Genesis, and in other books, as Enoch, we see a story told of the fall of some evil angels who co-habited with women of this earth. This produced a race of giants, which were half-angelic, and half human... Their spirits are powerful evil spirits.

Genesis 6:1,2,4

"And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God (angels) saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose... There were giants in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."

The evil angels, who created this attempt to corrupt the seed from which the Messiah would come, were later bound in the abyss.

II Peter 2:4-5

"For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell (tartarus, a term used in Greek mythology for the place where Chronos and the rebel Titan (giants) were bound), and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment, and spared not the old world, but saved Noah, the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly..."

Jude 6-7

"And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, He hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of that great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."

The angels who "left their first estate" to commit this "fornication" were bound in the abyss... The giants born to them lived and died on this earth. Many died in the flood, but "after that" first sinful time, after the flood, some angels again co-habited with women, and more giants were born. Descendants of these giants were still in the land of Israel when Joshua led the children of Israel back to the promised land.

One of the post-flood giants born was named "Nimrod". The nature of his birth is often missed.

Note what the Scriptures show us:

Genesis 10:7-9

"And the sons of Cush; Seba and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raaman, and Sabtechah, and the sons of Raamah; Sheba and Dedan. And Cush begat Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one (Heb. "gibbore" = mighty one, used of the giants born to women seduced by a fallen angel) in the earth. He was a mighty (gibbore) hunter before the Lord (in the presence and awareness of the Lord); wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty (gibbore) hunter before the Lord (in the presence and awareness of the Lord)."

The Scriptures tell us that the angels tried this fornication again after the flood, but here we see who one of the first ones to be born of this sinful union of angels and women of the earth.

Note in the "sons of Cush", there are five listed... and then it says that "Cush begat Nimrod". The Hebrew word for "begat" is "yalad", and means "deliver". As a midwife would deliver a child without being the conceiver of such child, so Cush delivered this child from his wife.

This was a different wife than the mother of Cush's other sons. It was Rhea (Damkina), that he took to wife in his old age... unaware that she was half human, half angelic. She later was impregnated one of the fallen angels named Ea... The Scripture is trying to make this clear, but our translation loses much meaning... Three times in the next several verses, the word "mighty" (gibbore) meaning "mighty one" and used to refer to the gigantic off-spring of angels is employed.

Nimrod, ruled the earth for 185 years (Jasher 27:16). He established his kingdom "in the land of Shinar". The Babylonians called him "Bel-Merodach" and "Marduk", but the Hebrew corruption of the name became "Nimrod".

Later, the constellation known as "Orion" was honored as representing this half-human, half-angelic being.

The book of Jasher records more of the earthly life of Nimrod than does the Bible. From it we learn that Nimrod tried to have Abraham killed several times. Following a sinful and evil reign, Esau killed Nimrod, by beheading him. The garments made for Adam by God, and indicating the right to rule the world for God, had been stolen from Noah by Ham, and given then to Cush, who gave them to Nimrod. Esau took these from Nimrod.

The spirit of Nimrod remained loose to deceive, to rule, and to seek worship down through the ages... This leader of these giant beings was one called by many names throughout history. We shall use the name "Belial"... He was worshipped as "Baal" much in history. For the church age, he has been bound in the abyss, but will shortly be freed to inhabit the Antichrist during the tribulation period.

The Antichrist is called "the king of Babylon" (Isaiah 14:4) and the Antichrist is connected with the "mystery Babylon" of Revelation 17:3-5. Nimrod was the original king of Babylon, and his spirit will inhabit the human last king of rebuilt Babylon.

The Antichrist parallels the evil described of the Antichrist in

II Thessalonians 2:4:

"exalt himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped, so that he as God, sitteth in the Temple of God, showing himself that he is god..."

In Revelation 17:3, we see "a scarlet covered beast". This beast is Belial. He is the "beast out of the abyss" referred to by John in Revelation. He is an evil spirit, who will use the Antichrist to restore the old Grecian empire as the eighth kingdom. Belial leads the ten kings, and directs the Antichrist to "make war with the Lamb".

"Belial" (from the Hebrew - Bal-ya-al - meaning "a being of no ascent or resurrection") is actually his title. His name is "Metanbuchus" which is from the two Hebrew words "mattan bukah" meaning "the gift of the abyss". This one is half human and half angelic spirit (from the angels that co-habited with women in Genesis creating a race of giants).

"He dwelt in the heart of Manasseh" (Apoc. of Isaiah 9:11), he also inhabited Alexander the Great. Later Jesus bound him to the abyss. Someday, he will be released to inhabit the Antichrist.

This threefold attempt of the devil, to have this evil spirit, that once was Nimrod, to inhabit a man, is the key to understanding the 666, number. This will be shown later in this commentary.

This evil spirit of the abyss is the "gift" of the abyss. A dreadful and horrible "gift" to return to this earth, but like his name - Metanbuchus - he has a destiny for these last days.

There is no resurrection for this Belial, and others like him, other half-angelic, half human spirits. The Psalmist prophesied that some would think that Christ was inhabited by such a being, and therefore, they did not need to fear His resurrection.

Psalms 41:8

"An evil disease (literally =Belial) say they cleaveth fast unto him, and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more."

Isaiah 26:13-14

"O Lord our God, other lords beside Thee have had dominion over us, but by Thee only will make mention of Thy name. They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased (Rephaim, a name of the giants created by the fornication of angels with women), they shall not rise! Therefore, hast Thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish."

The term "sons of Belial" is used often in the Old Testament:

(Deut. 13:13, Judg, 19:22, 20:13, I Sam. 1:16, 2:12, 10:27, 25:17, 25, 30:22, II Sam. 16:7, 20:1, 23:6, I Ki. 21:10, 13, II Chron. 13:7).

Revelation 17:11 tells of different kingdoms, five came before John's day,

Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, and Greece.

The sixth kingdom was the Roman kingdom which existed in John's day... The seventh kingdom is the one of ten kings making up the old Roman empire... The demon, Belial, is the one who inhabited and empowered Alexander the Great, and built the old Grecian empire, the fourth kingdom. When Jesus came, He sent "Belial" to the abyss, and this evil spirit has long awaited his release to inhabit the ruler of the last kingdom. We have not had to face this evil being, since when Jesus came, His death and resurrection meant a binding of this Belial to the abyss until the last days. Jesus came, in His first coming, to cast this Belial into the abyss.

John 12:31

"...now shall the prince of this world be cast out..."

When the Spirit came at Pentecost, Belial had already been judged and imprisoned into the abyss.

John 16:11

"of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged..."

He is confined now, until this release to restore first the Grecian empire, then the old Roman empire...

Revelation 17:8

"The beast that thou sawest was, and is not, and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition (the man of sin, i.e. the Antichrist)"

Apocalypse of Isaiah 10:2

"Belial, the evil demon who rules this age since its inception as the king of demons, will come from his place (the abyss) and inhabit the likeness of man, and dwell in a lawless king..."

Revelation 11:7

"The beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them (the two witnesses) and shall overcome them and kill them..."

II Thessalonians 2:3 speaks of the "man of lawlessness" and "he that opposes and exalteth himself against all that is called God..."

Many believe that "man of sin (or lawlessness)" is a reference to Belial, and the other a reference to the Antichrist. That makes this a reference to the Antichrist as one possessed by Belial.

Daniel 5:10-11

"...there shall rise unto you from the tribe of Judah and of Levi, the salvation (Yeshua) of the Lord, and He shall make war against Belial"

This Belial was an opponent of Christ. Belial has shown great antagonism against God and Jesus throughout history.

II Cor. 6:15

"What concord hath Christ with Belial?"

Revelation 13:1 speaks of a "beast" that will "rise out of the sea" representing the evil spirit (Belial) that inhabits the Antichrist. This Belial will be utterly defeated during Armageddon, and the Millennial rule of Jesus will be void of this Belial.

Revelation 19:19

"And I say the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him that sat on the horse, and against His army."

Isaiah 14:4-6:

"...The Lord hath broken the staff of the 'wicked one' (Belial), ...he (Belial) that ruled the nations in anger is persecuted, and none hindereth..."

While a fleshly being, called Metanbuchus, he married a half angel, half woman named Asherah... She has been worshipped by many different names down during history:

Diana (Romans)
Artemis (Greeks)
Pene-Baal ("reflection of Baal", Carthaginians)
Cybele (Phrygians)
Ma (Cappadocians)
Astarte (Phoenicians)
Ishtar (Assyrians)
Aphrodite (Cyprians)
Asherah (Babylonians)
Astoreth (Canaanites)
Boreatene (Mysians)
Hera (Greeks)
Venus (Romans)
Gaia (Greek goddess of the earth)
Destiny, Meni (See Isa. 65:11)
etc.

Belial has been worshipped by many different names also:

Baal (Canaanites)
Zeus (Greeks)
Tyrimnas (Mysians)
Jupiter (Romans)
Tammuz (Phoenicians) [Ezek. 8:14]
Bel-Merodach, Marduk, (Babylonians)
Baal-gad [god of good luck]
Beelzebub (Ekronites)
Amon (Egyptians)
Baal-hamman (Carthaginians)
Baal-peor (Moabites)
Nimrod (Ninevehites)
Orion (this constellation was dedicated to Nimrod) [See Job 38:31]
Mars, Nergal (Romans)
Moloch (Ammonites)
Fortune, Gad (See Isa. 65:11)
Adonis (Greeks)
Dumuzu (Sumerians)
etc.

This evil spirit will inhabit the Antichrist, and will, with the evil spirit that inhabits the false prophet, finally kill the two witnesses. This will not happen until the two witnesses have accomplished what they were sent to do, and the death of the two witnesses is also part of the plan of God.

This portion of the book we call the ‘Apocalypse of Elijah’ informs us of the acts, deeds, and work of this Belial, when he returns from the abyss during the tribulation.

Acts of Belial, during the tribulation period.

First to be mentioned by Elijah is that he will demand sacrifices (Apoc. of Elijah 2:26).

This is confirmed by the Bible, see Daniel 12:11:

"And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days."

This ‘abomination’ that is set up, is the ‘idol’ that is supposed to be sacrificed to, and honored, in place of the ‘sacrifice’ that he has ‘taken away.’

This evil being named Belial, will cause people to do abominable acts and bitter acts (Apoc. of Elijah 2:26)

He will also appear below the sun and the moon (2:27)

This helps me understand a verse in the Book of Enoch, that long has puzzled me.

Compare this prophecy in the Book of Enoch:

Enoch 80:5

"In those days, the moon will give off more than normal brightness for a time, because of a new heavenly object that shall appear below it as it sets one night."

We can also now better understand the prophecies of Luke 21:25-26, Acts 2:19-21.

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

28. Then the priests will tear their garments in shock and rejection.

29. Woe to those rulers, for their time is over.

30. The violence against the humble will make them reject and scatter the demons.

This evil spirit, named Belial, will bring violence against the humble (Apoc. of Elijah 2:30) This is in agreement with the Bible, for John also prophesied of such.

Revelation 13:7

"And it was given him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them; and power was given him over all kindreds and tongues, and nations."

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

31. Economic crisis will come upon the cities of the earth. Marketplaces will be empty and collect only dust.

This ‘Belial’ will cause economic crisis and shortages (Apoc. of Elijah 2:31). The Bible also prophesies such economic crisis:

Revelation 6:6 ‘a measure of wheat (enough for one man to eat for a day) for a penny (a wage for a day’s work), and three

measures of barley (enough to feed four for a day) for a penny.

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

32. Those in the markets of the world will weep. They will desire to die, and be unable.

Belial will bring the world to tears. In fact, saints in heaven will likewise be in distress about the horrible events being caused on the earth.

Note what Revelation says the saints in heaven will be saying:

Rev. 6:10

"And they cried with a loud voice, How long, O Lord, ..."

Likewise, the humans on earth will be in distress, as shown in:

Revelation 6:15-16

"hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks... said to the mountains, Fall on us."

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

33. They will climb rocks, leap from them, saying, ‘fall on us’. Yet, they will not die.

The crisis of the earth will make people wish to die.

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

34. A double portion of affliction will then come.

Belial will bring double portion of affliction. The evil spirit will have miraculous power, and the false prophet, while in sight of the antichrist, who is possessed by Belial, will have power too.

Revelation 13:14

"miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast..."

The two of them, uniting power, seem necessary for some miracles.

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

35. The evil spirit will command nursing women to be seized, and have blood taken from their breasts to be used as poison in battle.

Belial will make poison from blood taken from breasts of nursing mothers. The Bible says something concerning this, and it has perplexed scholars for generations. Now with the words from Elijah’s book, we can better understand what the Bible was speaking.

Mark 13:17

"Woe... to them that give suck in those days."

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

36. Due to the wars, the demon spirit will demand that all boys, twelve and even younger, be trained for war.

War is the norm for this Belial... and though the Antichrist, whom Belial inhabits, will promise peace... we see that war is inevitable. Belial will demand boys 12 and under to be trained for war.

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

37. Midwives will mourn in that time. She, who gives birth, will regret bringing a child to birth on the earth as it is.

38. The barren woman and the virgin shall rejoice, because they have no children upon the sinful earth. They will long to bear their children in the heavens.

This Belial, and his evil works will make people fearful to bring children into the world.

Mark 13:17

"Woe to them that are with child."

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

39. Then three kings will come from Persia, and put in bondage the Jewish people of the land, and make many rush to Jerusalem to hide there.

Belial will put many in bondage and slavery. The Bible also confirms this.

Rev. 13:16

"...he causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive the mark."

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

40. If you hear, ‘There is peace and safety in Jerusalem, then tear your garments and weep, O priests, for the evil spirit of Belial will soon disrupt that peace.

War is norm for Belial... He is an evil spirit, that has always fought against the coming ‘Seed of woman"... and he certainly will disrupt peace. Note that John in the Book of Revelation confirms this battling nature of Belial.

Revelation 6:2

"...he went forth conquering"

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

41. At that time, the wicked one will enter the holy places.

This verse of Elijah confirms what Daniel tells us about the evil one entering the holy place.

Daniel 8:13

"to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot."

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

42. The three rulers from Persia will then flee, and war with the four Assyrian rulers.

Belial is the spirit bringing this war.

Revelation 6:1-2

"...he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given him, and he went forth conquering and to conquer."

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

43. They will be three years in removing the wealth of the Temple.

There will be much gold, silver, etc. in the temple. The evil antichrist and false prophet shall desire to take this wealth. It is Belial that inspires such greed. They, under Belial’s direction will plunder the Temple. The Bible confirms this: Daniel 2:43 "he shall make it desolate."

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

This is the final battle of the tribulation. We see here some events also prophesied by Ezekiel and John.

Note that the antichrist, and Belial, who is inhabiting him, will come from Beth-shemesh.

Bethsemesh was the name of several cities. There was one in Judah (Joshua 15:10, 19:41-43, I Kings 4:9, Judges 1:33-35. There was one in Issachar (Joshua 19:22). There was one in Egypt (Jeremiah 43:13). But this one mentioned here is in Naphtali. Joshua 19:38 also talks of this city. It was located, as far as we can surmise, in the central part of the land of Naphtali.

This shows the entrance point from the north of this ruler.

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

49. He will bring gifts to the Temple and say, ‘we all serve the same God."

Belial will will attempt to get people to worship him as god. First, he tries to get all to think that the ‘god’ of the Moslems, and other religions, is the same ‘god’ as worshiped by the Jewish and Christian believers. Then, as they agree with that false premise, he then tries to set himself up as the ‘true, one god’.

The Bible tells us that the ‘false prophet’ will be the one to seek to get all to worship the antichrist, and the evil spirit known as Belial, who is inhabiting this antichrist.

Revelation 13:15

"cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed."

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

50. The people will hail these Persian rulers.

51. Those who do not die in that conflict, will accept the one in whom the wicked one dwells, and accept him to be ‘the king of righteousness. They will trust him to save the land.

The political savvy of the antichrist is due to the acumen of Belial, who has for millennia been planning. He will get people to trust him to save the land.

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

52. This ruler will command that no taxes be given for three and a half years.

The evil scheming of Belial will then suspend taxes. Of course, this will bring popularity to him...

Apocalypse of Elijah 2:

53. The land will prosper and have abundance.

54. The living will wish for the dead to arise and enjoy the time of peace and prosperity.

These deeds and actions, inspired by Belial, will bring a short time of prosperity and blessing to the land.

The Apocalypse of Elijah takes effort here to distinguish for us the deeds and actions that are really the plans of Belial, in contrast to being the plans of the human antichrist. God is always accurate in defining the inspiration. For instance, when Peter blurted out something evil, it was Jesus Who rebuked the devil who inspired Peter with ‘get thee behind Me, satan." Then on another occasion, when Peter said ‘Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God", Jesus also told Who it was that inspired Peter to that knowledge. So, here, in this book, we are shown what deeds are really being planned and activated through the human antichrist, by the evil spirit named Belial.
