THE DEMONS’ METHODS:
OPPRESS, OBSESS, or POSSESS
Satan has wisdom, but it is perverted. Satan has ability, but it is limited. He is a deceiver, but God enlightens His own- so they need not be deceived. In reality, Satan is a stupid enemy. Too many give too much credit to Satan. He doesn't know everything. He is no mind reader. He may be powerful, but we, as Christians, have a greater One in us. Satan may tempt, but God always makes a way of escape. (I Corinthians 10:13)
The Bible instructs us to be joyful, even in trials, because God will use, even what Satan uses to try to hurt us, to give us good things.
James 1:2-4 Amplified Bible
"CONSIDER IT WHOLLY JOYFUL, MY BRETHREN, WHENEVER YOU ARE ENVELOPED IN, OR ENCOUNTER TRIALS OF ANY SORT, OR FALL INTO VARIOUS TEMPTATIONS. BE ASSURED AND UNDERSTAND THAT THE TRIAL AND PROVING OF YOUR FAITH BRING OUT ENDURANCE AND STEADFASTNESS, AND PATIENCE. BUT LET ENDURANCE AND STEADFASTNESS AND PATIENCE HAVE FULL PLAY AND DO A THOROUGH WORK, SO THAT YOU MAY BE PERFECTLY AND FULLY DEVELOPED (WITH NO DEFECTS, LACKING IN NOTHING)."
James 1:12 KJV
"BLESSED IS THE MAN THAT ENDURETH TEMPTATION; FOR WHEN HE IS TRIED, HE SHALL RECEIVE THE CROWN OF LIFE, WHICH THE LORD HATH PROMISED TO THEM THAT LOVE HIM."
If we resist the devil, he has to flee, and we win. All the trials and temptations that the devil throws our ways, God not only overcomes, but brings out many good things from them. Overcoming a trial develops endurance, steadfastness, patience, and maturity in each of us. Satan tries to defeat us, but instead, we are matured and strengthened through the trials. The dummy (Satan) keeps giving us trials, and we keep maturing more and more.
As we get stronger and stronger in the Lord, the devil keeps getting smaller and smaller. We are the winners, he is the loser. He is the dummy, and he always has been.
God's first prophecy scared Satan.
"AND I WILL PUT ENMITY BETWEEN THEE AND THE WOMAN, AND BETWEEN THY SEED AND HER SEED. HE SHALL BRUISE THY HEAD, AND THOU SHALT BRUISE HIS HEEL."
Satan learned about a "SEED" of the woman who would defeat him. This scared the devil.
"...THE DEVILS BELIEVE AND TREMBLE."
Satan had thought the he'd won the war when he had succeeded in having Adam and Eve sin. Then God tells him that there is a plan for the devil to be defeated. None of the angels, or demons knew what the plan was. God kept it secret until after the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus.
I Corinthians 2:8
"...WHICH NONE OF THE PRINCES OF THIS WORLD KNEW, FOR HAD THEY KNOWN, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE CRUCIFIED THE LORD OF GLORY."
This frustrated the devil. Someone would come and reduce him to zero, and strip him of his power. Satan was stupid, he didn't know who this "SEED" was. Satan wanted to destroy him down through the ages. The search began.
Cain and Abel were both seed of Eve. When they offered their sacrifices, the devil saw that the Lord had respect unto Abel's, but not Cain's. Satan thought "Aha! Abel must be the 'Seed'." So the devil inspired Cain to kill Abel. The devil thought that if Abel was killed, God's plan would fail. But God's plan did not fail.
"SHE BARE A SON, AND CALLED HIS NAME SETH; FOR GOD, SAID SHE, HATH APPOINTED ME ANOTHER SEED, INSTEAD OF ABEL, WHOM CAIN SLEW."
Satan then decided to try to corrupt the seed of woman, so a promised Seed could not come as a direct descendant of Adam and Eve. He sent evil angels to take wives of the daughters of men. The children born to them were giants. Noah was "perfect" in his lineage from Adam and Eve. Noah and his family were saved from the worldwide flood. God destroyed all the defiled seed. The devil had tried but stupidly failed again.
Male after male came on the scene. Satan kept thinking -"This may be the One." The devil tried to kill Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, etc. Moses finally came on the scene. The devil tried to destroy him at birth. Hidden in a small boat, the daughter of Pharaoh saved, and then raised Moses. When the devil had Moses fail by killing an Egyptian, the Egyptian government would have taken his life, but Moses fled to the desert for 40 years. Moses returned to free the Israelites from Egypt, but he was not the promised Seed.
The devil kept trying to kill, or defile, all who might be the promised Seed. David, Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel all had to encounter the devil's attacks.
The Messiah (Sent One) finally came. When the time was near, Satan inspired Herod to try to kill all the male children under 2 years old. That failed, for Jesus escaped that slaughter. Finally, as John the Baptist preached, he announced..."BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD, WHO TAKETH AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD." (Matthew 2:16) Then when Jesus was baptized, God announced:
"THIS IS MY BELOVED SON, IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED."
Satan finally knew who the promised Seed was. Jesus went to the wilderness, and the devil followed Him. There Satan tempted Jesus to try to defile Him. The devil even tried to get Jesus to commit suicide. That failed. Jesus stayed sinless.
Satan started to build a conspiracy against Jesus. Despite the loving way of Jesus, and the fact that He healed the sick, raised the dead, fed the multitudes with a few loaves and fishes, the devil still inspired many to want Jesus dead. Finally, at a Passover time, the devil thought he'd finally succeeded. The crowd was shouting "Crucify Him!" The devil finally thought -"See, I'm not so stupid!" But this turned out to be the ULTIMATE STUPIDITY.
I Corinthians 2:7-8
"...EVEN THE HIDDEN WISDOM, WHICH GOD ORDAINED BEFORE THE WORLD UNTO OUR GLORY; WHICH NONE OF THE PRINCES OF THIS WORLD KNEW, FOR HAD THEY KNOWN IT, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE CRUCIFIED THE LORD OF GLORY."
Satan would not have had Jesus crucified, if he had been smart. Satan thought that if Jesus were killed, God's plan would be defeated. But God had a hidden plan. The devil did not know this plan. Jesus died and thereby conquered sin and death. The death of Jesus planted a victory for us. Let's look into the Bible and see the brilliant plan of God.
"EXCEPT A CORN OF WHEAT FALL INTO THE GROUND AND DIE, IT ABIDETH ALONE: BUT IF IT DIE, IT BRINGETH FORTH MUCH FRUIT."
For seed to produce, it must be planted. When Jesus, the promised Seed, was planted in His grave, He began a process of reproducing. A seed that is planted, produces and multiplies. Because of Jesus' death for us, we can become Christians. We can have our failures wiped from our slate and be as sinless as Jesus Christ.
"FOR THE EARTH BRINGETH FORTH FRUIT OF HERSELF, FIRST THE BLADE, THEN THE EAR, AFTER THAT THE FULL CORN IN THE EAR."
Before the crucifixion, Satan had only one Seed to worry about. Now, since that crucifixion, the planted Seed has been bringing forth a harvest of more seed... called the church. That is why Jesus told us to do the works that He did. We all are the same threat to the devil that he worried about the Seed (Jesus) to be. The devil now has a whole church to battle.
"IF YE BE CHRIST'S, THEN ARE YE ABRAHAM'S SEED, AND HEIRS ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE."
We cannot be conquered by death, for now, "TO DIE IS GAIN."
We cannot be defiled, unless we choose to be, for if we "RESIST THE DEVIL AND HE WILL FLEE FROM YOU..." We now have the promised Seed dwelling within us. That means "GREATER IS HE THAT IS IN YOU, THAN HE THAT IS IN THE WORLD.”
So what does the devil do? He is fighting a war against a multitude of saints, each with power like unto what Jesus had when He walked this earth. He has some devices that he uses, and we need to be aware of them, ready to defeat him again and again, as he struggles in his last days of freedom. Soon, he will gnash his teeth in the lake of fire, like all the fools who followed him.
Demons attempt to oppress all of the saints. Oppression is an attack against us, from the outside, with sickness, trials, persecution, poverty, etc.
the demons oppress many, for theirs is the source of sickness. The human body has not yet been ‘adopted’ by the redemption. The redemption of the body awaits the rapture/resurrection event. Until then, the body ages, sweats, tires, feels pain. The soul is redeemed at salvation. The body awaits its eternal nature, yet to come.
Obsession is when the demons catch hold of a mind, to make it listen to the words and suggestions of evil, and not the Words of the Lord. Some may be demon obsessed, not knowing they are heeding demonic suggestion, thinking they are doing the will of God. They man stone saints like Stephen, thinking they are doing God's will. Really are hearing encouragement for such deeds from demons not from God. That is obsession. Sometimes in obsession, the demons like to torment, and they will reveal themselves as demons, and try to get the person to live in fear and dread of those demons. Tormenting the mind is obsession, whether done with the awareness of the person obsessed or lack of awareness.
Demonic possession happens when a demon moves into the soul of a person, and takes control of the will. Jesus cast demons out of persons that were possessed. The Lord told us, 'these signs shall follow them that believe, in My name, they shall cast out devils." Demons once had a body, but in the former creation, the souls were not sent to hell. They were loose, some are still loose. They desire to possess a body, to do their evil works through such. When Jesus dwells in us, the demons cannot move in. Saints are never demon possessed, obsessed...yes, oppressed...yes, but possessed... no. A demon cannot "roommate" with Jesus. We cast out demons, so that the person having the demons cast out can accept Jesus as Savior. If the person does not, the Bible warns us, that later the demons or their friends will move in sevenfold to the person having demons cast out. We need to present the Savior to them, so they can choose Him.
Sometimes, obsession is confused with possession, and that makes some think possession can happen to saints. Sometimes, the person is not truly saved, has been pretending, with a religious demon that is good at pretense. Yet, that demon needs cast out, to allow the person to truly get saved.
Demon possession is the lack of control in the person's will, that is why saints come to remove the demon from the person who has no personal will to do it themselves. The chance of it leaving on its own is slight, so it takes a rhema rebuke of a saint to expel such demon.
