Why do people resist maturing
from milk or pablum to the spiritual meat?

Luke 14:
15 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:
17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper."

The Lord has provided in the Bible a feast of information, of spiritual instruction, of promised blessings, etc.

Yet, having prepared it, having preserved it, having allowed us to see its validity and infallibility, many do not seem interested in partaking of it.

They may have box of promises on their dresser and read one a day (nothing wrong with that, as long as it is not the only Spiritual diet)... The Bible sits on the end table and gathers dust from one Sunday to another, and seldom if ever studied in many homes.

Verse 15
eat bread in the kingdom of God

The saints, even in our new and eternal bodies, will continue to eat food throughout eternity. God and angels eat, Jesus said He would not drink of the fruit of the vine until He did it with us at the marriage supper of the Lamb in heaven.

I believe that the 'bread in the kingdom' speaks of spiritual bread, found in the Word, ... and when in the kingdom we do need spiritual sustenance.

God has invited all to come and partake of spiritual meat, and spiritual milk... both literally at the marriage supper of the Lamb, and spiritually partake of the food in the Word of God, but many will choose not to come.

Verse 18

one consent began to make excuse

All sinners make excuses for not serving God. Some saints make excuses for not coming to the feast of spiritual food in the Word of God.

Some fault God for things the devil has done, and avoid the Word of God in anger over those troubles the devils have instigated.

Some exalt themselves feeling they do not need Bible study, they have arrived spiritually, and need nothing...

Some are distracted by family, business, recreation, and sinful pursuits.

Some do not want to renounce their sins, and the Bible study would reveal their resistance to God's way.

Adam and Eve blamed the serpent, and hid from God. Some today  are like that, and hide away from the Word of God, and its messages.

There is milk and meat, pablum or great spiritual sustenance, and there are many excuses for not wanting to feast in the Word... None of the excuses are worthy to speak to God... they may satisfy the speaker... but God is listening to the excuses... and none are valid excuses...
