BLESSINGS OF THINKING ARIGHT

Proverbs 23:12 (KJV)
Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

In this world of turmoil, of political contention, of national threats from terrorism, economic uncertainty, etc. we have many unpleasant thoughts entering our mind.  If we read the Word, and think ‘the Lord is My Shepherd’ after, before, and during all those negative things, we can still smile, having cleansed our minds from the negative.

We need to ‘apply our heart’ to the instruction and truths in the Word of God.  We may hear them in song, preached in sermons, taught in Bible studies, read in personal study.  If they are put into our ‘heart’ (mind) and are thought upon, considered, and believed, they will settle our thoughts, calm our disposition, give peace and joy to our spirit.

Prosperity, wealth, health, fame, and worldly wisdom are all fleeting and soon to disappear.  The heavenly blessings, the peace of God, our eternal relationship with our Lord and Savior, are eternal.  On which are we focused?

Proverbs 23:5 (KJV)

Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

The world honors the rich and the powerful.  If our minds go with that thought, we lose so much.  We may envy what they have, and lose the peace of God that passes all understanding that we could have had.

Proverbs 23:17-18 (KJV)
Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

GOD’S COMMANDS REGARDING OUR MINDS, OUR THINKING;

1. DECIDE TO THINK ABOUT WHAT GOD CALLS UNDERSTANDING & TRUTH

Proverbs 2:2 (KJV)
So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

Proverbs 22:17 (KJV)
Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto My knowledge.

Proverbs 23:12 (KJV)
Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

We need to be teachable, and seek God’s understanding of what is right and wrong, of what is valuable and worthless, and of what is truth and error.

2. ACCEPT WHAT GOD SAYS IS HIS PURPOSE AND WILL

Proverbs 2:10 (KJV)
 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

3. CONSIDER THE COMMANDMENTS, AND MENTALLY CHOOSE TO KEEP THEM

Proverbs 3:1 (KJV)
My son, forget not My law; but let thine heart keep My commandments:

Proverbs 4:4 (KJV)

4He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain My words: keep My commandments, and live.

Proverbs 4:20-23 (KJV)
My son, attend to My words; incline thine ear unto My sayings.  Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.  For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.  Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Life, health, joy, and peace come with keeping the commandments of the Lord in our thoughts.  We are not saved by keeping them, we were saved by accepting Jesus gift of salvation.  Yet, we are made joyous, healthy mentally, healthy physically, by diligently keeping the commands of the Lord, His direction for our lives, in our conscious mind.

4. THINK THOUGHTS OF TRUST IN THE LORD
Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Our own mind will think thoughts of worry, despair, sadness, sorrow, fear, etc.  We need to not ‘lean’ on those thoughts, but put into our minds, the passages of the Word that assure us we can ‘trust’ in the Lord.  They will set our thinking straight.

5. WHEN VARIOUS TEMPTATIONS COME TO YOUR MIND, THOUGHTS WE KNOW ARE WRONG, THOUGHTS THAT ENCOURAGE ACTIONS THAT WE KNOW ARE WRONG, REFUSE TO INCLINE TO THOSE WORDS

Proverbs 7:25 (KJV)
Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.

6. WHEN OTHERS FAIL, BE UNDERSTANDING AND EMPATHETIC

Proverbs 8:5 (KJV)
O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

7. CHOOSE WHEN TO SPEAK THOUGHTS, AND WHEN TO REFRAIN FROM SPEAKING

Proverbs 16:21 (KJV)
The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.

 Proverbs 12:23 (KJV)
A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

Proverbs 14:33 (KJV)
Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.

8. KEEP JOY, MERRIMENT, AND LAUGHTER IN YOUR THOUGHTS

Proverbs 15:13-15 (KJV)
1A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.  The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.  All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

9. ALWAYS BE A STUDENT OF THE WORD OF GOD, EVER LEARNING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

Proverbs 15:28 (KJV)
The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

Proverbs 18:15 (KJV)
1The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

Proverbs 23:12 (KJV)12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

THOSE WHO THINK WITH A MIND THAT IS WASHED IN THE WORD OF GOD, HAVE BLESSINGS

BLESSING 1
INCREASE IN LEARNING AND KNOWLEDGE

 Proverbs 1:5 (KJV)
A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

Having false doctrines, wrong thinking, errant methods of thinking will bring confusion, make it hard to ever learn truth.  Some who have not washed their minds in the Word of God end up ‘ever learning but never coming to a knowledge of the truth.  It is wise to cleanse out the ungodly thinking, the sinful, errant thinking, and let the Spirit of God, through the Word, teach us.

BLESSING 2
PROFIT BY THE REBUKES AND TEACHINGS OF THE WORD OF GOD

Proverbs 9:8-11 (KJV)
8Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.  For by Me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

Proverbs 15:31-33 (KJV)
The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.  He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.  The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

The Word of God brings knowledge and wisdom.  We learn therein God’s plan, and His reasoning for His plan.  If we cleanse out the human, carnal thinking of society, we can profit by learning real truth in the Word of God.

Our thinking then can be verified by the Word of God.

BLESSING 3
BUSINESS SHALL THRIVE

Proverbs 10:1-8 (KJV)
The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death. The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked. He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.  He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.  Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.  The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.  The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
Thinking properly, righteously, brings the blessing of God upon our work.

Businesses thrive, talents are blessed.

BLESSING 4
KNOWLEDGE WILL KEEP INCREASING

Proverbs 18:15 (KJV)
The heart (mind) of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

Proverbs 10:14 (KJV)
Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

Proverbs 15:2 (KJV)
2The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

Proverbs 15:7 (KJV)
The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

If we want our thinking to reveal an inner knowledge, a wisdom that surpasses the wisdom of society, we need to get into the source of real knowledge, and direct our thinking by the Word of God.

BLESSING 5
THE TONGUE WILL BE UNDER MORE CONTROL

Proverbs 10:8-14 (KJV)
The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.  He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.  He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.  The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.  Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.  In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.  Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

Proverbs 17:28 (KJV)
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

With our thinking be enlightened by the truth in the Word of God, we will better judge what to say, when to say it, and in what manner it can lovingly be said.  This control on our tongue is a blessing we all need.

BLESSING 6
EASIER TO WIN SOULS

Proverbs 11:30 (KJV) Proverbs 29:11 (KJV)
11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

We have a mission, to take the good news of salvation to the world.  It is vital that we win souls, for Jesus is coming soon.  When our thinking is more aligned to the Lord’s thinking, we will more clearly hear the message we give to those needing Jesus.  It is far easier when we eliminate all the false ideas on salvation, so the message we give is the simple instructions of the Word on how to be saved.

BLESSING 7
EASIER TO BE RIGHTEOUS

Proverbs 14:6 (KJV)
A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.

Proverbs 28:5-7 (KJV)
Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.  Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.  Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.

There are so many additions to what the Word teaches on how to be in right standing with the Lord.  The additions of mankind into our thinking may make us feel very unrighteous, when actually the Lord looks at us and sees no sin, for we are clothed in the righteousness of the Lord.   So, as we get our thinking in alignment with His, we find righteousness is easy.

BLESSING 8
FAR LESS STRIFE AND CONTENTION

Proverbs 29:8 (KJV)
Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.

Proverbs 29:11 (KJV)
A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.

Wise thinking, loving regard for the souls of even the wicked, will keep us from having so much strife with others.
