CHOIRS, SINGING, MUSICAL WORSHIP???
I herd some ministers commenting on fact that the word ‘choir’ is not in the Bible, yet we have them in the churches today. Others in some churches refuse to allow musical instruments. Well, ‘choir’ is an English word, and there does seem to be a void of English words in the original language copies of the Bible. Yet was there singing, were musical instruments used?
The first choir in the New Testament was singing in Bethlehem, by the angels, when Jesus came in His first coming. They had joy in singing about Jesus’ first coming. Should not we have been singing about not just His first coming, but also about the nearness of His coming again. We will sing in heaven.
And they sung as it were a new song before the throne...
In heaven, there are ‘harpers’, musicians, singers, music. Music and singing is an integral part of heaven, and its worship of God. God loves music, and has provided instruments for us to use when we get there, to accompany our singing. Angels use instruments, sing and worship too.
Singing was quite accepted and loved in Bible times. Have you made it a part of your life? Of your worship?
Prophets in the Old Testament times, ministered in song before their prophetic words. Perhaps the words of the song were the prophetic words, for many of them are in poetic form.
Music is a vital part of true worship. God wants more worship, more instrumental praise, more words of His message put to worship and praise, and then comes blessings for us.
David was a 'man after God's own heart", and his singing of the psalms was one of the main reasons he had so many blessings from God to grasp. The psalms are filled with the feelings and thoughts of God.
"Is any merry, let him sing psalms (psallo, to play a stringed instrument, to sing to the music of a harp)."
Have you been singing, even when you do not feel like it? Do you sing while in the prisons of life, while persecuted by the carnal of life, while weary of the work of life? We are instructed to do so, and anytime we have two or more people together to worship the Lord, we are in 'church'. We need to sing of Jesus, of King Jesus.
"Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom, teaching
and admonishing one another in psalms, and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise.”
I Thessalonians 5:18
“In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus,
Singing praises forces us to quit the ‘give me’s” and say “make me”. When we are letting the Lord bless us.
Singing praises has purified our souls.
“As the refining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold, so is a man to his praise.”
Do not wait for church services to continue your singing. In the car, in the home alone, in the shower, on a walk, etc., sing your praises to God. Paul and Silas did it in a prison, we ought to be able to do it anywhere.
As we approach ‘thanksgiving day’, let us remember to sing, praise, worship every day.
